Ellen Degeneres Comes Back To Show With Welcome Words Of Comfort

Apr 07, 2020 by apost team

Ellen Degeneres has joined the wave of talk show hosts who have gotten creative and begun to film at home during the Coronavirus pandemic, often with their family acting as crew members, with episodes airing on YouTube. Filming from her living room, the short video acts as an introduction to the new season of The Ellen Degeneres Show, which will be recorded from home in the meantime. She offers some words of comfort and gives thanks to the many people putting their health on the line as they continue to do their jobs.

The first episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show to air since March 13, when production halted due to the growing pandemic, Ellen makes her reasons for doing the show from home clear. She explains its "really for the people stuck at home," especially her staff, who she says she'd like to support by keeping the show on the air.

She goes on to add: "I want to take your mind off of everything that's going on in the world. If you're feeling down, I want to lift you up. If you're feeling trapped, I want to set you free. If you feel like you're going in the wrong direction, I want you to back that thing up."

While the tone of the monologue is sincere, it's not without her usual jokes, which we've come to expect from the comedian. Explaining why she chose to film in the living room, she said it had the best light, before adding "all the rooms in my house are filled with toilet paper."

Taking a moment to thank all of the people who are still working during the crisis, from healthcare workers to supermarket staff and truck drivers, Ellen gives a special thank you for those who are continuing to do their jobs so that the rest of us can stay in and socially distance.

Ellen's wife Portia De Rossi is credited as being her crew, acting as director and camera operator, while she jokes that their dog, Augie, is helping out as key grip. In the short segment she phones tWitch, the DJ from her show, who audiences will be familiar with. They both discuss what they've been doing during the last few weeks, clearly having a nice catch up after a few weeks apart.

In a different video released on the same day, Ellen is joined by her first guests for the new variation of the show, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. The trio discuss how they've been spending the time during self-isolation.

It's comforting to see that while we're all at home going through this together, so are celebrities, and their commitment to bringing us entertainment during this time is touching.
