A vast majority of parents would risk anything for the health and safety of their children. This parental instinct isn't unique to the human species, however. Elephants are incredibly emotionally and socially intelligent animals that develop long bonds with their mates as well as their children. Get ready for a roller coaster of emotions. You've been warned.

It was a typical day in India by elephant standards when a baby elephant wandered to a well for a drink of water. Tragically, the baby elephant fell down into the well after tripping. He tried his hardest to climb out but he was stuck. The mama elephant heard the screams of her baby and came over to help. At first, the mother didn't know how to help her beloved baby out of the predicament.

Eventually, mama elephant realized that help wasn't on the way. The only way she could save her baby was by doing it by herself. She started by grabbing her baby by her strong trunk. She pulled hard, but nothing happened. After thinking through the potential options, the mother elephant decided to dig a way out for her child.

She started digging vigorously without concern for her well-being or energy levels. Soon, a crowd of people gathered to see what the commotion was about. When a few people attempted to approach to help save the baby elephant, the mother became quite defensive. She was afraid that one of the people would try to hurt her baby.

Instead of provoking the already tired mother, the people decided to watch and see how long her digging would last. 11 hours passed and the mother elephant hadn't ceased her efforts. The sun was rising and another crowd formed with eagerness to see what would happen that day. A few people had a plan to help the mother and the baby elephant. They distracted her with some bananas to help her recover energy while removing most of the mud from the well.

The mother was now able to wrap her trunk around her baby and pull it out. The two were overjoyed to be reunited and ventured off into the jungle after the mother elephant regained some energy and strength. After all, digging for 11 hours straight is bound to make anyone tired.
