Elephant In Thailand Decided To Lie Down On Passing Car

While elephants are majestic, beautiful creatures with tremendous hearts for those they love, their massive size can prove to be a danger! No one knows this quite as well as some tourists who were enjoying a drive through the Khao Yai National Park in Thailand when an elephant decided it was time to come give them a show – if only that show hadn’t involved kneeling on their car.

The elephant started by blocking the car when he stepped out in front of the vehicle, stopping it from continuing down the paved path. When the car stopped, the elephant made his way around to the back and kneeled against it, putting all his weight on the back end of the car.

According to the Bangkok Post, this giant beast is no stranger to the park. The 35-year-old creature is called Duea and is often seen by tourists. While he has been known to make an appearance often between the wet and cold seasons, Duea has never put on such a show!

While we’re sure that the driver and passengers were frightened by Duea’s welcome, thankfully everyone was unharmed. The car, on the other hand, wasn’t quite as lucky! While it still runs, it shows serious dents after the tremendous animal leaned his weight on it.

Officials suggest that Duea may have been frightened and acting out to protect himself against the vehicle.

To prevent similar incidents, tourists are asked to stay at least 115 feet away from the elephants and warned to avoid stopping their vehicles to take pictures. However, in a case like this, avoiding the elephant seems like it would have been impossible.

This isn’t the first time that an elephant posed a serious threat. According to the Telegraph, in 2015, a tourist made the unfortunate decision to stop her car to take a video and a bull elephant attached, charging the vehicle head-on.
