Elephants have an impressive exterior, but their inner world is even more impressive. Elephants have very similar brains to humans. Their neocortex is very convoluted. This neocortex makes them able to experience many emotions like grief, playfulness, and happiness.

A recent video revealed the power of the elephant brain.

Thongsri is an elephant who lives in Chiang Mai in a sanctuary. She is a 17-year-old elephant, and she loves her caretaker. She treats her caretaker with sincere affection and loyalty. In the most recent video featuring the two friends, Thongsri's caretaker was pretend-fighting with a friend. Thongsri spotted this playfight and rushed in to protect her friend. She didn't want to see her friend suffer, so she wanted to intervene. After the fight concluded, Thongsri was extremely worried about her friend. She got down on her knees and started checking to see if the caretaker was okay.

The video quickly spread throughout the internet. Viewers were touched by Thongsri's actions. The wonderful elephant took care of her friend. Viewers left numerous comments that were focused on how the elephant views their caretaker as family and that the elephant truly loves her caretaker.

Other commenters focused on how elephants have been treated in the past. They pointed out that elephants have lost their homes and family members to humans in the past. Even though humans have hurt elephants in the past, these beautiful creatures still care for humans.

This beautiful scene caught the hearts and minds of people across the internet, but this is not abnormal for elephants. When elephants migrate in herds they regularly help others in need. If an elephant falls, then others in the group will help their wounded friend. If an elephant gets stuck in the mud, then the rest of the herd will work together to pull the fellow elephant out of the mud.

Elephants show a profound amount of empathy for others and their emotional intelligence is incredible.

Thongsri is a beautiful elephant and clearly, this creature has a beautiful soul. The willingness to help her caretaker is one example of this elephant's ability to empathize and protect her friends. Pass this video on if it made you smile, and be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments!
