Elderly Woman Gets Robbed While Visiting Dead Husband’s Grave: Days Later, Robber’s Son Contacts Her

Losing someone special to you is probably one of the hardest things you could ever go through, and this is what happened to a 78-year-old woman named Tona Herndon. After a long life together, her husband of 60 years passed away.

Unfortunately, at times like this, bad people take advantage of people who are emotionally vulnerable and who can’t fight in order for them to earn a quick buck.

According to a report published by CBS News in October 2013, Tona was visiting the grave of her husband in Bethany, Oklahoma, two weeks after his passing.

Since she had just become a widow at the time, it must have been hard for her as she spent six decades with the love of her life before he died.

At that moment, something traumatic happened to her again as she was tragically mugged while she was in the churchyard. The perpetrator was able to get her purse and over $700.

“I really didn’t even know anything was going wrong until I was halfway in the car,” she recalled

Authorities were able to locate and arrest him a few days later, and his mugshot was shown on television.

Because of this, a 15-year-old teenager named Christian Lunsford recognized that the robber in question was his father.

He detailed his life to the news outlet as he told them that his parents got divorced when he was only two years old, and his dad was mostly not around when he grew up.

The last time he got in touch with him was shortly before he was arrested, as his father gave him money for a band trip.

The teenage boy noted that his dad had always been like that as a father, and unfortunately, he was also in and out of jail lots of times in the past prior to his case with Tona Herndon.

Christian then questioned his life if he would end up being like his father as he told the outlet: “There’s times that you just feel really low, like, ‘Is that going to be me?... Am I going to end up like that?’”

The boy had different plans for himself and wanted to do the right thing, so when he found out about his father’s wrongdoing, he spoke with Tona to make amends and wanted to meet her in the parking lot of a church.

“It needed to be done… She needed an apology from somebody. If I didn’t apologize, who would?” Christian said.

In an emotional video shared by CBS News, the two were able to connect with each other, and they could be seen holding hands.

Their encounter touched Tona, and she found it “extraordinary” that a 15-year-old boy would have that much conscience to feel compelled to say sorry for something his father did.

Later in the clip, Christian pulled out his wallet from his pocket and brought out $250. He told her that his father gave him the money and he wasn’t sure if it was her cash.

“I’d feel bad if I didn’t give it to you,” he said.

Tona accepted the money. Since it was hers, she said she had all the right on what to do with it, so she gave it back to him and told Christian that she wanted him to take the trip.

The interaction ended with a hug between the two, and the people who surrounded them appeared to be emotional as they wiped their eyes.

In the end, Christian shared a few words of wisdom, as he told the outlet: “You’re not who your parents are… Even if they do raise you, you can become whatever you want to be.”
