Many people perform random acts of kindness from time to time with no expectation that they would be recognized for their efforts.

They are simply compassionate people who see others in need and lend a helping hand. This is the case for Jared Stice, an employee at a QuikTrip in Tulsa, who immediately offered to help an elderly man who was having car trouble.

Arthur McAfee, a 91-year-old man, had stopped by this neighborhood gas station in Tulsa to pick up a few groceries. He told KOTV-DT that when he returned to his car, he realized that he had a flat tire.

At his age, he was unable to change the tire himself, so he walked back in the store to look for assistance.

Jared overheard Arthur asking others for help, and he immediately stepped in to offer assistance.

Working inside the store, Jared had worn shorts and a t-shirt to work despite the cold weather outdoors. However, he did not let the matter of the weather conditions prevent him from rendering aid to the elderly man in need.

He walked outdoors, got the supplies he needed and laid down on the cold parking lot asphalt to begin changing the tire. While he changed the tire and Arthur looked on gratefully, neither man noticed that an observer had taken a picture of their interactions.

When Jared’s girlfriend texted him later that night and told him that a picture of him at work was going viral, Jared was surprised.

Only Jared and his girlfriend immediately identified the man in the picture as him. Arthur also heard about the photo from his sister. The two men reconnected, and Arthur offered to pay Jared for his kindness. Jared refused the offer and told Arthur that he was happy to have the opportunity to do the right thing.

It turns out that Jared’s friend is actually Arthur’s grandson. Through the grapevine, Jared learned that Arthur is struggling with skin cancer.

This made the random act of kindness even more meaningful.

Jared clearly has the mindset of being a public servant, so it is not surprising to learn that he aspires to be a firefighter in the future. In fact, he has passed the EMT exam and has already applied for admission into the Tulsa Fire Academy.

Both Jared and Arthur will carry this memory with them for a lifetime. Do you have special stories about human kindness and compassion?
