British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show in 2017 to perform treated listeners to a live performance of "Castle on the Hill."
During his appearance on the Howard Stern Show, Ed Sheeran performed a live version of one of his own songs as well as three cover songs. The radio host asked the British singer if he could play some cover versions of other artists’ songs as he thinks Sheeran does "really interesting takes on other people's music." The singer was happy to do so and when Howard suggested a cover of 50 Cent's "In Da Club," Sheeran performed a stunning rendition of the song right off the bat. After that, he performed covers of Coldplay's "Yellow" and Blackstreet's "No Diggity."

But Sheeran’s most outstanding performance on the show probably was him singing one of his own songs, “Castle On The Hill,” in which he sings about his neighborhood growing up. His live performance of the song sounded just as amazing as its studio version and proved once again how talented the British musician really is.
On the show, Sheeran also revealed that one of Bruce Springsteen’s hit singles had inspired him to write “Castle on the Hill”:
“I’m a recent Springsteen admirer,” Sheeran told Stern. “I’m a bit late to the party but I listened to “The River” and I was like ‘I need to write a song like “The River”’ and this is my take on it.”
Ed Sheeran left quite the impression on radio host Howard Stern who later gushed about the singer in an interview with Rolling Stone:
"One young artist I love is Ed Sheeran. He is such an incredible songwriter and singer, yet he is not at all impressed by his own fame," Stern said about Sheeran. "There is a lot to be learned from Ed about being grounded, fearless, and hardworking. People criticize millennials for being unmotivated and entitled. Ed defies those stereotypes."
