Ed Sheeran Says He Lost Weight After He Stopped Bad Habits In His Life

Jun 01, 2021 by apost team

Ed Sheeran is one of the most well-known and beloved pop singers of today. With a huge number of awards and accolades under his belt, Sheeran has become one of the most recognized faces in the world. His music continues to make waves, and every new album is met with critical acclaim. Even for someone as gifted and talented as Sheeran, however, the internet cannot always be kind. Sheeran had faced a lot of bullying from online trolls for having gained weight, and after a point, he decided to take matters into his own hands and give it his all to lose weight.

Celebrities are, after all, just like everyone else, so online criticism about things like weight gain can be very hurtful. While some commenters may be genuinely concerned about the negative effects of weight gain, others use the opportunity of anonymity to make people feel bad about their bodies. Sheeran took this as a chance to turn his life around, and it looks like it has been a permanent change.

In January 2017, he first opened up about his weight loss and habits he cut out to make his goals real. Over the last four years, he has maintained his weight loss and has continued to speak about his healthy lifestyle. Recently, he opened up about how Covid-19 did not hinder his lifestyle, and if anything, he feels healthier than ever today than he has in the past.

Sheeran spoke to BBC Radio 1 on May 28, 2021, about how he has continued to make his life healthier.

Speaking on BBC Radio1, the 30-year-old Grammy winner shared what he has been doing since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and he also stated that he feels healthier than ever today than before.

"It's the first time I've been really healthy," Sheeran said. "I've kind of stopped all the bad habit stuff in my life. Started exercising every day. I was eating like a takeaway every single day, and now I don't eat takeaway every single day and it's been good."

"It just happened," the singer added. "And because I wasn't having chicken wings and two bottles of wine a night."

Sheeran welcomed his daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, with his wife Chelsea Seaborn in August 2020. He explained that he began to focus on his health after he got off tour in 2019.

Previously, he also opened up about his weight loss in December 2019 when he appeared on the "Behind the Medal" podcast. PEOPLE reported that the singer said that he quit smoking, which was one of the ways that he lost weight.

"I stopped smoking three years ago and then ever since then started exercising. I love it," Sheeran said. He also added that his workout routine consists of 45-minute outdoor runs in the morning, which is sometimes paired with swimming and sit-ups. During the podcast, Sheeran also opened up about how online trolls had called him "chunky" and "fat."

"I never once had any insecurities really about myself until people pointed them out. Your brain starts thinking about them," Sheeran said according to Insider.

"I was the same sort of age as the One Direction boys and Justin Bieber and all these people that were really in shape and had six-packs and I was kind of like, 'Oh should I be looking like this?" Sheeran continued. He admitted that these comments certainly affected his self-esteem, but he tried not to allow the targeted attacks to bring him down.

"It all stems from other people's insecurities. So many people have so many things they're insecure about so it makes them feel better to point out someone else's," Sheeran said. "Half the people that would say I was fat would be fat themselves." However, the negative comments led to Sheeran discontinuing his Twitter account permanently

He opened up to TODAY about his lifestyle before he committed to weight loss, as he said, "I didn't even touch exercise for a long time. I was really into sports as a kid and then started music and started smoking and then it all kind of went out the window." He also explained that his unhealthy lifestyle was worst when he was on tour in the US.

However, the tours were not entirely bad. Sheeran also revealed that he got a lot of exercise during live performances when he practiced dancing and moving. "I jump up and down on boxes, when I’m finished I’m drenched in sweat. I do jump around quite a bit," Sheeran said according to PEOPLE. "And just under those lights, just sweating, you drop off a bunch."

Sheeran has continued to maintain his weight loss and a healthy lifestyle today.
