At the final gig of his two-year tour, singer Ed Sheeran made an announcement to the crowd that he will be taking some time off and spending time with his new bride Cherry. The two were married in December of 2018 and they haven’t had much quality time together because of the busy tour.

Ed Sheeran came home to Ipswich, Suffolk to round out the tour and towards the end of the show, he declared to surprised fans that it would be the last for a while. The NME reports that he said:

“There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months.”

He went on to say that “It is the biggest tour ever” and he has “played to nine million people around the world.” The tour started in March 2017 in support of his “Divide” album and has grossed more than $775.6 million from ticket sales.

According to Pollstar, it tops the list of highest-grossing tours of 2018. It went all over the world and included a headlining Glastonbury show and mini-residency at London’s Wembley stadium.

Now Sheeran can finally get off the road and head home, it is a relief to take a break but is also a bittersweet moment.

He explains that “It’s been an emotional day for a lot of people backstage. It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you’re breaking up with a girlfriend that you’ve been with for years. It sounds odd but it has been a long tour.”

The “Shape of You” singer ended the night with a song he wrote when he was 15 and thanked everyone on the tour, and to those that gave him a chance, reports The Sun.
