Eager Yellow Lab Can’t Contain Joy To Meet New Baby Sister

March 14, 2017, was a huge day for Stella the yellow Labrador retriever. She finally got to meet her two-day-old baby sister, who was brought home during the appropriately named "Winter Storm Stella."

Most older siblings are excited to meet their new baby brother or sister. Not all of them are overly enthused, but most are practically jumping with joy. You'll often hear adorable stories about how a big sister or brother stayed up all night to get to meet their new sibling.

Sometimes you'll get to see pictures or videos of them, cuddling the infant in a way that says, "Don't worry, little baby, I'll protect you." It's heartwarming to watch that moment of unhindered adoration. However, we think it might be even more adorable when it's a dog.

Some dogs are wary of children and uncertain of how to approach. Other dogs will exhibit jealousy, as they like to be the center of attention. However, neither of these were the case with Stella. In fact, Stella was more than excited to become a new big sister, and you can tell from the way she interacted that she had decided it was her job to protect and love her.

Often, when new parents bring a baby home for the first time, they want to introduce the dog to their child slowly to make sure everything goes according to plan. But, according to the video footage, Stella was more than ready to meet the new baby. As long as, as owners, you're confident in how your dog will react, you can proceed in whatever way you feel best. For Stella's parents, this meant letting gentle Stella investigate as she pleased.

When Stella's parents arrived at the door, Stella squirmed, held back by another individual. Her parents almost immediately responded with, "It's okay you can let her go." They released Stella, who was initially simply excited to see her owners. Once she realized there was a new baby in the carrier, however, she ran up to investigate. You can almost physically see how Stella forces herself to stay still, be gentle, and mostly calm.

As soon as they were inside, Stella took the first chance she had to sneak her face into the carrier, gently nuzzling her new baby sister. Whereas through the rest of the video, Stella may very well have been hyper and excited, with her new sister, she's sweet, gentle, and calm.

It's clear that she understands this is a baby, small and squishy, so Stella takes extra care to be gentle. Once let outside, though, we get to watch her run her victory laps. She's clearly doing her best to run off her extra excitement from being a brand new big sister. Once Stella's parents have the new baby out of her carrier and into a rocker, Stella is there, showering her in gentle affection.

She nuzzles the top of the baby's head multiple times, gently licking it — her new little sister even smiles at one point. As soon as she starts to get overwhelmed, you can see Stella backs off just slightly. Stella clearly understands what it means to be a big sister and knows how to interact. She wants nothing more than to give her baby sister all the love, care, and protection she can possibly provide.

Have you had a dog who made it their personal responsibility to love and care for your children from the day they came home until they were all grown up? We imagine these two will be best friends.
