The life of a street dog is hard. People think badly of the stray dogs and many of the dogs end up being captured and euthanized.

Some are taken by people and put into dog fighting rings. In Buenos Aires, the life of a street dog is not an easy one.

A woman named Pia saw a street dog barely clinging to life. It was two days before Christmas in 2017. Her religious beliefs commanded her to do something in order to help the animal.

The dog looked like skin and bones. He had no twinkle in his eyes. He had given up and was just waiting to die.

Pia scooped up the dog and took him to the vet. The vet told her that the dog might not survive.

He suggested offering hospice at home in order to just make the dog comfortable. Pia would not give up on the dog. She refilled his water bowl several times and sat with him patiently. She gave him the name Hercules.

Hercules sipped water for a day or two, but would not eat. When he realized that Pia was caring for him, he slowly perked up. It took some time, but he began to eat. He slowly arose on his feet. After several days, he took a few steps.

After weeks, his hair started to grow back. He began to gain weight and look better. The twinkle came back into his eyes.

Hercules bonded with Pia. He seemed to know that she saved his life. He began to walk well, run and play like dogs who have always been a family pet. His coat came back lush, dark and beautiful.

His body put on much-needed muscle and fat, helping him look and feel healthier. Pia had been planning to put Hercules up for adoption once he got better, but she realized that she couldn't. He was her dog now.
