Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Rejects Prom Invite And Instead Creates Special Night For Students

As a high-school student, there’s no bigger letdown than getting up the courage to ask someone to prom and having them reject your offer. For one young girl in Oklahoma’s Stillwater High School, she wasn’t at all surprised that her ideal prom date wasn’t able to go with her. However, it was probably the best form of saying no to a prom date that anyone ever received!

As young ladies, many girls dream of bringing their celebrity crush as their date to prom. Katie Kelzenberg was no different. Katie is probably one of the biggest fans of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, at least his biggest fan at Stillwater High School. She has followed him closely throughout his days as a famous wrestler and through his incredible career in acting. She even went so far as to memorize his lines from some of his most popular movies.

It was no surprise to any of Katie’s friends that when prom time rolled around, she decided to extend an invite to none other than “The Rock.” She knew in her heart that he wouldn’t be able to make it, but that didn’t keep her from trying.

After she reached out to him to be her prom date, she felt disappointed when week after week went by with no reply from Johnson. However, she knew he was a famous actor with a very busy schedule of filming and commitments that left him without time to be a high schooler’s prom date.

But when Katie finally heard back from Johnson, it’s not hard to see why the young girl was so excited to receive a “no,” as it had to have been one of the best rejections in history!

Back in April 2018, Katie posted a video on Twitter asking Johnson if he would go to her high school prom with her. In the video, she wore an outfit that many Johnson fans would be familiar with – a black turtleneck with jeans, accessorized with a fanny pack.

Katie included photos underneath her video in the Twitter thread. One image showcased a sign she had made specifically to ask The Rock to be her date at prom. The sign read:

“Dwayne, will you ‘Rock’ it at prom with me?”

Other photos showed Katie posing in the same black turtleneck and jean outfit, as well as happily posing by Johnson’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Katie is definitely not the first person to ask their celebrity crush to prom. Although not everyone is lucky enough to get a response, a few people have heard back from their favorite singers or actors over the years, even though most of the time, they were met with rejection.

Still, the idea of even hearing back from your favorite celebrity and knowing that they’re aware of your existence is enough for some fans, especially die-hard fans, and Katie fell under that category.

Unfortunately, some time went by, and Katie still hadn’t heard back from The Rock. However, that all changed one Friday at school, according to the Stillwater Area Public Schools YouTube channel. Katie had been in her classroom listening to the morning announcements when she heard a very familiar voice come over the classroom’s speaker system.

While the announcement was happening, most of Katie’s classmates paid no attention to the new voice on the speaker. However, Katie knew immediately who the mysterious voice belonged to.

Within moments, the entire class stopped to listen in complete silence and shock as The Rock passed a message along to Katie, whom he referred to as a “special lady.” He passed along his regrets to Katie.

Johnson also posted a video explaining more about the situation on his Instagram account. In the caption, he wrote, “I was so impressed by this young lady’s charm and confidence to even ask me (ladies always get shy in front of me) that I had to do something special."

While he couldn’t attend Katie’s high school prom, he instead reserved the Opal Cinema for her and 231 of her guests to watch him in his latest hit movie at the time, “Rampage,” complete with all the popcorn and candy they wanted. Katie was astonished, and, needless to say, she became an even bigger fan of Johnson than she already was.

In Johnson’s Instagram post, he added, “I wish I was there in person Katie, to see your reaction to all this, but I’ll hear about for sure and most importantly – you and all your friends have fun at the theater and ENJOY RAMPAGE! Thanks for being an AWESOME FAN and I’m a lucky dude to have fans like you.”

Even though Katie didn’t get the dream prom date she had always wanted, it’s safe to say that she is one of the few people who enjoyed being rejected by her crush.
