Dwayne Johnson’s Mom Adorably Crashes His Jimmy Fallon Interview As She Plays The Ukulele

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one of Hollywood's leading tough guys onscreen, but off-screen his demeanor is closer to that of a teddy bear than an action hero. That is evident from the many interviews he gives, where his positive attitude shines through, or on his social media, where he posts photos of his adorable daughters. He's even given interviews discussing all of the women in his life — alongside his wife, he has three daughters — and how much he praises them. Another important woman in his life is his mother, Ata Johnson, whom he also posts regularly to his social media accounts.

In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, which took place virtually, Dwayne was joined by his mom Ata for an impromptu ukulele performance! His mom came onscreen with the instrument in her hand and she and her son performed one song together, but just as it seemed they were finished and his interview with Fallon would resume, Ata began playing a second song, much to the surprise of Dwayne. However, the soft-at-heart macho man couldn't resist and joined her in the second song as well. 

Meanwhile, Fallon was absolutely thrilled to witness the performance. Clearly acquainted with Ata as well as Dwayne, the three of them seemed to really enjoy themselves. The second song that Ata and Dwayne sang literally called out their love of Fallon, which absolutely delighted the TV host. Dwayne and Ata's relationship is too sweet for words and the fact that not only Fallon but his viewers were able to witness this wholesome exchange and free mini-concert is a true delight.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson first burst onto the scene as a professional wrestler. Before that, he played college football but was unsuccessful in turning pro after not being drafted in the 1995 NFL Draft. Following this, he turned his focus to wrestling, and it wasn't that far of a stretch for him — both his father, Rocky Johnson, and grandfather, Peter Maivia, were pro wrestlers. Dwayne was billed as the first third-generation wrestler in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) and with his charming persona, he quickly rose to be one of the most successful wrestlers in the art form. Although he only initially worked as a wrestler for eight years, his successes both in winning championships and drawing crowds have made him one of the greatest pro wrestlers of all time. 

But by 2004, Dwayne had his sights on Hollywood, leaving the WWF in order to build his acting career. His first film role was as Mathayus, the scorpion king, in 2001's "The Mummy Returns," three years before he officially retired from wrestling. Clearly a hit with audiences, the character got his own spin-off movie, with Dwayne starring in 2002's "The Scorpion King." His first film roles mostly played off the macho persona that he'd cultivated while wrestling, but he soon moved to comedy as well. Other notable movies of his include the "Fast & Furious" franchise, after he first joined in 2011's "Fast Five" as the character Luke Hobbs. He's since appeared in five movies from the franchise, including the spin-off "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw."

Somewhat surprisingly, Dwayne has also found his niche in children's movies such as "Moana," "Tooth Fairy," and the rebooted "Jumanji" franchise. This might seem odd at first, but considering how much of a family man Dwayne is, it's not all that strange. The proud dad of three daughters — 19-year-old Simone, whom he had with his first wife, and 5-year-old Jasmine and 2-year-old Tiana with his current wife Lauren Hashian — he's even given interviews about being present at all of their births and how he believes women are incredibly strong. Speaking with Access in May 2020, he discussed being present at all of his daughters' births: 

"I was right there — I'm that dad. My wife's head is up there, and I'm right here [like], 'Let me see the baby.'"

He even went further, talking about the power that women have during childbirth:

"There's this unique estrogenic reserve that only women have when they dig deep through this pain, and it is incredible to see. And it reminds me, 'Oh, of course, this is why women have babies and men don't!'"

For a man to acknowledge the pain that women have to go through and the strength that they possess in order to bring new life into the world is one thing, but to hear it from former professional wrestler The Rock, who knows his fair share about physical pain is quite another. That's one of the truly charismatic things about the wrestler-turned-actor — despite being a chiseled guy with a look that says "Don't mess with me," he's actually an incredibly supportive husband and doting dad at heart!  

Ever the proud dad, he even posted to Instagram when both of his younger daughters were born. In the post announcing Jasmine's birth in 2015, he shared a photo of her as a tiny baby laying on his chest, with a heartfelt caption accompanying the image. In it, he wrote, "Within minutes of being born, she was laying on daddy's chest."

Unsurprisingly then, when Tiana was born in 2018, he posted a similar picture of his new daughter laying on his chest and captioned the post in a similarly loving way. He wrote, "Blessed and proud to bring another strong girl into this world."

Surrounded by women, Dwayne has quite the admiration for females and it's very likely that this comes from his own mother, Ata Johnson. He posts photos with her on his social media, including one recent video of the two of them singing along while she plays the ukulele as they visit her parents' grave in Hawaii. He wrote a lengthy, sincere caption alongside the video explaining the moment and added, "I’ll cherish this one with my mama @atajohnson at her parents grave 🌺✨❤️"

Well, the video must have left quite an impression, as Jimmy Fallon brought it up during a virtual interview with Dwayne on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." After first discussing Dwayne's tequila brand Teremana and his new show "Young Rock" — a biographical comedy-drama series that just began airing its first season in February of this year — Fallon brought up the heartwarming video in which Dwayne and Ata are singing along while she plays the ukulele. 

Fallon mentions he was surprised that Dwayne's mom could play the ukulele so well, prompting Dwayne to call her over to the screen while telling Fallon "she's right here." Dwayne also asks her to bring the ukulele. Ata, who is 72, shares the same beaming smile and eyes that Dwayne, 48, has become famous for, and this video shows exactly where he got his charming looks and personality from. 

After sharing a few warm words with Fallon, the mom and son duo begin to treat him and all of his viewers to a rendition of "Savalivali Means Go For a Walk," a traditional Samoan song. They sing:

"Savalivali means go for a walk / Tautalatala means too much talk," they sang in unison as Ata played the instrument. "Alofa ia te oe means I love you / Take it easy, faifai lemu."

It's an adorable moment and Fallon is clearly thrilled at the performance. But just as it seems the moment is over, Ata declares, "We have one more!" to her son's surprise. Instantly he says:

"No we don't have one more! What do you mean we have one more? What's this, what's happening?"

Although it's his interview, Ata has clearly stolen the show with her equally charismatic personality and musical skills. She then begins singing an impromptu song that appears to be dedicated to Fallon, with the words:

"We love you, Jimmy / Oh, yes, we do / We love you, Jimmy / and that is true. When we're away from you / we're blue. Oh Jimmy, we love you."

Once the song started, Dwayne couldn't contain himself and also joined his mom in singing about their love for Fallon. Meanwhile, the host was absolutely delighted and clearly blushing from the attention, telling them afterward, "Oh my, I love you! I'm sending love right back to you." He continued:

"Mom just crushed by the way! You just stole the interview. You're unbelievable. You are a superstar."

Dwayne was also impressed with his mom's efforts, telling her "Good job" and "That's awesome," while giving her a high five. Truly a sweetheart, Ata wished Fallon farewell and kissed her son's forehead before leaving them to finish their interview. Dwayne even joked afterward, saying, "I love when she goes, 'We have one more!' We do?"

Clearly, the moment wasn't enough and the actor wanted to relive it once more, so he posted it to his Instagram and captioned the video:

"A career first...singing with my mom @atajohnson on @fallontonight 😂🎶🤦🏽 My mom ADORES @jimmyfallon like a son, so I thought she’d love to come on impromptu style and sing him a song w/ her ukulele. But after the first song finishes she says, 'We’ve got one more'.... to which I said, “NO WE DON’T HAVE ONE MORE”... 😂😂😂 🛑  But she started strumming anyway and the moment she started singing..'WE LOVE YOU JIMMYYYYY OH YES WE DOOOOO....' I fell in lock step with her and started singing too 🤷🏾‍♂️"

He also added:

"I’m a lucky son of a gun to have such a positive force of a mama. What a happy soul she’s got 🙏🏾 I’ll admit, her mana is pretty infectious ✨"

This video was a pure joy to watch and shows the world a little bit more about who Dwayne is and where he gets his positive energy from.
