Duo Lights Up The Dancefloor With 'Bare Necessities' Routine

Jul 28, 2020 by apost team

A pair of swing dancers, Laszlo Tarkanyi and Stefanie Tschom wowed their audience during the Strictly Open final in the 2019-2020 SwingVester competition in Vienna.

They were surprised with a fun and familiar song, Bare Necessities, from the famous movie by Disney The Jungle Book. They did not hold anything back as they danced to the tune.

The DJs Calculate Their Most Evil Plan

During the Strictly Open competition, competitors have no idea about which song they will be dancing to. On getting to the stage, in front of other participants, the host asks the DJs to select an adventurous song.

When asked how adventurous on a level of 1-10, he picks 10, "By picking adventurous, you push it to the max," he continues jokingly. "We'll pray for you." he finishes as he heads to his seat and the DJs deliver the perfect 10.

The Music Starts Slow

As the music begins, nobody seems to get the hint yet. Stefanie and Laszlo start swinging and sliding slowly and gracefully. Then the lyrics start:

"Look for the bare necessities

The simple bare necessities

Forget about your worries and your strife

I mean the bare necessities

Old Mother Nature's recipes

That brings the bare necessities of life"

The crowd breaks out in cheer and laughter; even the couple cannot hold back the smiles. Instantly, just like the mood in the room, their moves change and turn into a fun West Coast Swing Style. They occupy the stage so well, gliding from end to end.

Their moves are flawless, evidence that they are both highly skilled, and their chemistry is undeniable. While watching them, it is hard to believe that it is spontaneous and not a well-practiced routine. They flow so well to the tune that the other participants struggle to stay sited, the audience cheers at various points and taps along mostly.

The Playfulness

The duo is so fun, and Bare Necessities was the missing piece to this puzzle. They did not choose the song picked for them, and they did not disappoint. The couple flowed seamlessly from beginning to end.

Their considerable height difference came as an advantage for them. Stefanie effortlessly slid under Laszlo's arms several times and even under his legs. They took every cue in the song and pulled the perfect stunts for each with dramatic poses, spins, skips, and leg bumps. Can you imagine? It was so exhilarating to watch.

Did Their Charm Work?

They brought out their inner kid as they danced to this song that many grew up enjoying. Bare Necessities was a favorite for many, which explains why it was nominated as the Best Original Song for an Academy Award according to SongFacts.

As they did their swing dance, it is easy to picture the charming Baloo dancing and singing.

Everybody loved their performance. It was easy to tell because of how the room lit up from beginning to end, the cheers that filled the room, and the standing ovations by most of the audience. The judge also loved it hence the reason the duo swung away with the first-place prize in the Strictly Open final.

Unlike most people who need days of practice and an idea of what to perform, this duo did not, and they still nailed it. They love what they do, and it loved them back. Not to say that it was a walk in the park either. They are both seen trying to catch their breath when they finished, so yes, it may have been fun, but it was not easy. This amazing impromptu performance will have you tapping, clapping along, and reminiscing for the good old days.
