When a loving family noticed a stray dog on their security camera in their San Antonio, Texas neighborhood, they knew something must be done to help the poor creature.

It was quite obvious the dog, which appeared to be a mixed-pit breed, was left to his own devices and simply fighting to stay alive. He would not approach any humans and ran away if they tried to approach him. Sometimes, he would even dart through traffic to avoid people.

No Pup-arrazi, Please

Upon noticing the dog wandering in front of their security camera for a few nights in a row, the family, who remains nameless, decided they needed to help the malnourished and obviously neglected pup.

“One night, he showed up in my driveway, so we started feeding him every night and built a routine – he had become nocturnal," the rescuer wrote, according to ViralHog.

There were so many questions about the family's security camera star that might never be answered. How was this dog finding food? Where was he seeking shelter? Was he sick or injured? The family decided upon a plan to at least get the dog some nourishment.

A Ruff Start

The family began placing small meals out for the dog each night in the sightline of their security camera. Sure enough, the dog came and helped himself to the meal. He was most likely thrilled to have something fresh after possibly weeks on the streets, DogHeirs tells.

The family continued to leave food and fresh, clean water out for the dog each night. Each night, the dog would show up like clockwork. He seemed to become nocturnal. He would only be seen at night on the security camera enjoying his meal.

This routine continued and trust was built. The family wanted the dog to feel at ease going in and out of their backyard. So, they slowly moved the dog's treats closer and closer to their gate.

"...It took a lot of hot dogs, chicken, and hamburgers, but eventually he ran right back there to get his treats," said one of the family members. What a lucky dog! Personally, I rarely get to eat those delicacies!

Rescue Me

Once the dog was routinely entering the family's backyard, they decided to reach out to a rescue group in their area. They knew the dog needed help that they couldn't provide.

After a few weeks of maintaining the food routine, the family was able to borrow a large dog trap from the rescue group. They put bacon cheeseburgers inside the trap in hopes of luring the dog inside. Then, they waited.

A No-Show?

When the dog did not show up at his normal time in the family's backyard, they began to worry. What if he had disappeared altogether? Luckily, the dog showed up the next morning.

The trap had worked as planned. The dog entered into the trap and was secured. It was obvious he was terrified, but at least he was safe. One member of the family sat with the dog, petting his head and paws to calm him down. This lasted for a few hours until he finally fell asleep.

A New Life

Henry, as the dog has been called at the rescue group, is now learning to walk on a leash and socialize with other dogs. Most importantly he is healing from his time on the streets.
