On May 19, 2018, former Suits actress Meghan Markle married Prince Harry at Windsor Castle. Fans from across the world tuned in and watched in awe as the breathtaking bride made her grand entrance debut. By the end of that day, she became known as Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex – a foreign, modern member of the British Royal family.

The ceremony was a star-studded, glamorous affair, with guests like accredited human rights lawyer Amal Alammudin and her husband George Clooney in the crowd.

It was topped with Queen Mary's diamond bandeau tiara, which was loaned to her by Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Harry was evidently taken aback by Meghan's beauty, as he reportedly told her "You look amazing,” when the two met at the altar, according to Evening Standard

Although it might have looked like the two were living out a fairytale-like love story, the couple has always been open about their struggles of living their lives in the spotlight. The media scrutiny Meghan specifically came under prompted Harry to release a strong-worded statement last fall condemning the “relentless propaganda” against his wife.

“I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person,” Prince Harry wrote.

“I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”

In a documentary that followed them on their African tour last fall, both Meghan and Harry got candid about how their fractured relationship with the British Tabloids was affecting their mental health. While Harry revealed his mother’s death is still a “festering wound” which he is reminded of with every camera flash, Meghan admitted she found it difficult to adopt the infamous British “stiff-upper-lip.”

The couple took a six-week-long break from their Royal duties in Canada following their African tour, where they kept a low profile as they spent time with little Archie.

In January 2020, Meghan and Harry took to their (no longer in use) Sussex Royal Instagram account to announce their departure as ‘senior’ members of the Royal family. In their statement, the couple revealed they intended to become “financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”

Following meetings with the Queen and other senior Royal members, it was agreed that Meghan and Harry would cease the use of their Royal titles and Harry’s military accolades while giving up their status as working Royals altogether.

The couple has since moved to Meghan’s native Los Angeles with Archie, who just turned one year old earlier this month.

Back in April, Meghan and Harry announced their new charitable entity, named Archewell, which is currently in the works. Speaking to the Telegraph, the couple said they would use their organization “to do something of meaning, to do something that matters.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have undoubtedly had a rollercoaster two years since their wedding, so we hope the couple has managed to find peace in their new life in LA.
