Driver Waves Down Cops When Wife Goes Into Labor, They Help Her Deliver Baby In Back Seat

You very rarely see a woman give birth in a place that isn't a hospital. Sure, some mothers opt to give birth at home on purpose. They hire midwives to help them through the delivery. However, most mothers would rather be surrounded by doctors and nurses when their baby is ready to be born. They want to make sure that their child is born in a safe environment in case there are problems. That way, experts can take over and make sure that the child is okay. Plus, they have a few days to recover under the supervision of nurses and doctors.

Whatever their preference, no one wants to give birth in a vehicle. But for one mother in New York, that is exactly what happened. New York police officers were called to the scene to help a woman who was in labor in the back seat of a vehicle in the city of Manhattan. The driver was the one to flag down the officers to let them know what was going on.

The officers were in Chelsea when the driver flagged them down for help. The couple, who lives in Brooklyn, was trying to get to Mount Sinai West when the baby decided to come early. The husband pulled over, realizing that they were out of time. Luckily for the couple, Officers Ronald Vincent and Michael Schiaffo were close to the scene. Officer Schiaffo also has 11 years of experience with the FDNY. This wasn't the first baby he had delivered, either.

After the unexpected and chaotic birth, the two were taken to a hospital nearby to be checked out. CBS reports that everyone is doing just fine. It was a speedy delivery indeed.
