Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler have a bond that extends beyond the screen – it also includes a heartfelt connection between their families. On a May 13, 2025, episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” the 50-year-old host welcomed fellow mom and guest Mindy Kaling, 45, for a candid conversation.

While chatting with Kaling, Barrymore shared her thoughts on how encouraging it was when teenagers showed kindness to younger children. To support her point, Barrymore praised the daughters of her longtime friend Adam — Sadie, 19, and Sunny Sandler, 16 – noting that they were “so good” to her own children, Olive, 12, and Frankie Kopelman, 11.

Barrymore co-parents her children, Olive and Frankie, with her ex-husband, Will Kopelman. Though Barrymore described their 2016 separation as a “painful” divorce, they successfully built a positive relationship for the sake of their kids. In 2021, she joined Will and his second wife, Alexandra Michler Kopelman, to go trick-or-treating as a blended family.

During Drew’s News segment of her show, the host reflected on her co-parenting experience, saying, “I think, honestly, this is so ideal. It is the dream. And I love seeing this, I really do. It’s very positive.”

She added a heartfelt observation about parenting after separation: “You’re never not together if you have children.”

Barrymore’s reflections showcased her commitment to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment, not only for her daughters but also through the lasting friendships that shape their lives.

While speaking with Kaling, Barrymore shared her admiration for families who raise empathetic and inclusive kids.

“I feel like it’s a really good sign of a good soul and good parenting when older kids are not dismissive of younger kids,” she told Kaling, adding, “It’s funny, like not to drop names, but Adam Sandler’s daughters, Sunny and Sadie, are so good to my daughters.”

She described how naturally the bond has formed between Sandler’s family and hers.

“Olive and Frankie are 10 and 12, and they like hang out. I always tell Jackie – Adam’s wife – what a good mom that she is and what good parents they are because their daughters always take younger ones under their wing,” she remarked.

Although Barrymore occasionally shared sweet moments involving her daughters on social media, she has always been cautious about protecting their privacy. She had made it clear that she refused to turn her children into a commodity, previously stating that she had no intention of “selling my brand on my kids.”

Her reasons were deeply rooted in her own experiences in the spotlight. “I started (in this industry) when I was in diapers,” she told PEOPLE in 2020, adding, “At 13, it was that sad sob story. And then I picked myself back up. I’ve been married, I’ve gotten divorced, I’ve raised myself, for better or worse. I have these two girls who are my entire universe. And it has all been out there.”

Having navigated fame from a young age, Barrymore’s outlook on life reflected a blend of resilience, growth, and deep devotion to her children. In detail, she has emerged with a grounded perspective that prioritizes emotional intelligence, kindness, and authenticity.
