George Clooney turned 60 years old today. There is no denying that George Clooney truly is one of the world's most handsome men. The popular actor and director has won multiple accolades for his stunning good looks, including being named People's "Sexiest Man Alive" on two separate occasions.

The Oscar winner — known for movies like "Ocean’s Eleven," "Gravity" and "Syrianna" — shares his birthday with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s firstborn son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who turned two this year. Clooney has joked about sharing his birthday with Archie in the past, telling Vanity Fair in 2019 that, “It’s really irritating — that kid is stealing my thunder. It’s supposed to be my day, and for me!”

George Clooney is a household name now, but back in the day, he had to audition for the little guest spots on TV shows just like anybody else trying to break into the game — it seems everyone has to start somewhere and that includes mega-famous celebrities. It’s really fun to look back at the roles they have taken, like Clooney's in “The Golden Girls.”

He played a police officer early on in the show’s run, on episode 24, season 2 entitled “To Catch a Neighbor.” He must have been about 26 in this 1987 episode, where he played detective Bobby Hopkins trying to catch jewel thieves who happen to live next door to the girls. They agree to host the detective and just like any other episode of the show, there were plenty of hijinks.

The show starred Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty as the four “Golden Girls” who live together in a Florida home. They navigate friendships and relationships together with plenty of laughs in between.

It wasn’t Clooney's only TV guest appearance, as he kicked off his career as “Young Man Carrying Barrel” in the 1978 mini-series “Centennial.” He also made it on the iconic '80s and '90s shows “The Facts of Life,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Roseanne,” and “Murphy Brown“.

Born into a family of media and entertainment stars in Lexington, Kentucky back in 1961, Biography.com details how Clooney was exposed to show business from a young age.

His father, Nick, was a news anchor and television personality while his aunt was a full-fledged actress. It’s no surprise then that Clooney had his first television appearance at the age of five as a character on one of his father’s talk shows, though it wasn’t until Clooney was in his twenties that he would start landing roles in Hollywood. After dropping out of high school and moving to Los Angeles, the young Clooney landed a couple of roles on television — "The Facts of Life" in the mid-'80s, "Roseanne" a few years later, and "Bodies of Evidence" in the early-'90s — and yet he hadn’t hit it big.

In fact, it wasn’t until Clooney was in his early 30s that he got his big break on the medical television drama "ER," according to Biography.com. His role as Dr. Doug Ross led to a whole slew of big-name roles from Robert Rodriguez's "From Dusk to Dawn" (1996) to Joel Schumacher’s "Batman & Robin" (1997). And since then, as movie buffs will know, Clooney has become a household name in Hollywood after starring in iconic movies like "Ocean’s Eleven" and winning multiple Golden Globe and Oscar awards.

Most recently, Clooney worked on the Netflix exclusive "The Midnight Sky," according to Collider. The 60-year-old directed, produced and acted in the new film, which is based on Lily Brooks-Dalton’s 2016 post-apocalyptic novel "Good Morning, Midnight." Collider reports that the film will be released later this year, allowing Clooney to enter the Hollywood awards race as both a director and an actor.

But for fans who want to celebrate along with Clooney by watching some of his newer work, Biography.com also reports that the 60-year-old also starred in and directed the 2019 Hulu miniseries "Catch 22," based on Joseph Heller’s novel of the same name.

In any case, there’s certainly plenty to choose from across Clooney’s decades-long career — with even more to come later this year.
