Every time Kate Middleton steps out for a royal engagement or to help those in need, she proves time and again that she is the epitome of grace and elegance and that she has a heart of gold. She has also shown that despite her title as Duchess of Cambridge, she is just as down-to-earth and personable as anyone else.

It’s no surprise that caring for youth is something incredibly important to Kate since she herself is a mother of three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Since her marriage to Prince William in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge has undertaken a long list of royal duties and responsibilities, and even holds patronage with over 20 charitable and military organizations. Much of her charity work has continued to focus on issues surrounding young children, with one of her most recent projects being the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

Finding ways to work with those who can help children in need has always been something personal to the duchess since the cause is so close to her heart. Kate has constantly stepped up when the time has come to give back and help those in need. During the year 2020, she did her part to lend a helping hand to people who were negatively impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, including parents and carers. During one of her many visits to a baby bank, Kate opened up about her own struggles with parenting and the hardships she herself has faced as a mother to her three children.

Back in August 2020, Kate visited Baby Basics UK in Sheffield, England, to help unpack donations and speak with parents. Baby Basics UK is a charity that acts as a food bank for baby supplies for families in need. Most of their donations include diapers, wipes, books and food. During the outing, Kate showed her support for children through both her actions and her attire. According to PEOPLE, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a face mask by Amaia, one of her favorite children’s brands.

The Royal Family Channel uploaded a video to YouTube showcasing Kate lending a helping hand to the volunteers at Baby Basics UK. She also made sure to spend some time with the adorable children at the charitable organization.

During 2020, Kate made several visits across the United Kingdom to visit other baby banks during such a critical time of need. The cause is very close to the Duchess of Cambridge’s heart, so much so that she even “burst into tears” after returning home from a baby bank in West Norfolk, according to the Daily Mail. “It can get very emotional,” Kate said

She went on to explain that the stories she heard from families were very moving and emotional. She continued, “The struggles they have gone through, the bravery they have shown… in extraordinary circumstances. Helping their families through extraordinary times.” Baby banks have played an important role in helping these families during tough times. Kate explained, “Having somewhere to turn to for support is important for all families, and baby banks work every day, up and down the country, to provide immediate, tangible and practical help for parents and carers when they are most in need.”

Since Kate’s visit to Baby Basics UK in Sheffield in August 2020, the baby bank has received a plentiful amount of donations. She left a remarkable impression on those who have devoted their lives to the charitable cause, including Baby Basics UK CEO Cat Ross. “I think what struck me the most about the Duchess was her genuine interest,” Ross said, as per the Daily Mail. On top of this, Kate also opened up about her own challenges as a mother. Ross said:

“She genuinely wanted to hear of our experiences, she wanted to hear directly from families that had accessed our services, what their experiences were like and was really unashamed to share her difficulties that she faced in parenting and really been able to relate to families about what it’s like raising children with three children herself.”

Back in 2020, Baby Basics UK had 37 centers across the UK, and has since expanded to 51, as per the Daily Mail. Ross explained that the donations have “absolutely snowballed since the Duchess got involved,” leading to 27 brands donating to the charity on a regular basis.

In June 2021, Kate launched the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which is set to conduct work, research and campaigns with other organizations on issues related to the early years of children’s lives. “We regularly communicate with the Royal Foundation and the Duchess about what’s happening with Baby Basics and where we’re opening new centres,” Ross said, explaining how Kate has continued to show genuine interest in the organization and its growth.
