Dolphin Plays Joke On Stand-Up Paddle Boarder Just For Fun

A pod of playful dolphins was darting through the waves in Gracetown, Western Australia recently when one broke away and decided to prank a standup paddler in their midst.

A video of the incident was posted online from a bystander who was filming surfers that day. The description reads that “The pod of about twenty dolphins then turned to catch a wave when one dolphin jumped out of the water and knocked stand-up paddle boarder Andrew Hill off his board with a nice bump!”

The hilarious video has been shared everywhere and commentators have given their ideas about what happened. “I worked with dolphins for a summer internship and I am entirely certain this was intentional,” One Reddit user JaqSmith said, “I'm also fairly confident it was not meant aggressively otherwise the dolphin would have hit rostrum (nose) first which can cause serious injury.”

Dolphins have a reputation of being the silly mammals of the sea. “Most likely, they are super mischievous and often do things or make up games for the fun of it,” JaqSmith also noted, “They even seem to enjoy causing vexation.”

In any case, the stand-up paddle boarder probably knew what he was getting into when he paddled his board into a wave of dolphins. The one in question probably just wanted to give him a friendly bump to say hello. Or like a territorial surfer, maybe he was he trying to tell him, “Hey locals only!”
