On June 5, 2025, Dolly Parton, 79, honored her late husband, Carl Dean, by visiting the church where they were married in celebration of what would have been their 59th wedding anniversary. The heartfelt tribute came just months after Dean’s passing in March 2025, following nearly six decades of marriage.
Parton also spoke about her late husband during a segment with Entertainment Tonight, released on May 21, 2025. In the emotional interview, the country music legend opened up about life without Dean and how she’s learning to navigate the world on her own.
“Of course I miss him,” she said of Dean. “I’m having to really go through a lot trying to figure out how to be without him because I was with him for so long.”
“There’s a part of me that’s happy he’s at peace and at rest,” Parton continued, adding, “But then of course, there’s that part of me that will miss him forever and long for him every day. For the rest of my life, I’m sure.”
Their love story began in 1964 when they met outside a Nashville laundromat. Two years later, they were married. Despite Parton’s rise to global stardom, Dean chose a private life away from the spotlight. Throughout their 58 years together, the couple’s bond was marked by unwavering love, mutual admiration, and a shared commitment that endured through fame and time. Their partnership remains one of country music’s most touching and enduring love stories.

During a heartfelt interview on FOX News’ America Reports, Parton opened up about how her strong sense of faith helped her navigate the deep grief following the loss of her beloved husband, Dean.
“I am a person of faith, even though I lost him on this earthly plane, and I will miss him every day, having to learn new patterns, new habits, but knowing that I will see him again and knowing that he’s in God’s arms now and not mine,” she told the outlet.
Although Dean was no longer physically with her, Parton emphasized that he remained close in spirit.
“But he’s still in my heart and in my memories,” she said, adding, “And that’s how I get through my work and my faith that’s carried me on through.”
However, she conceded, “But I do miss him, yes.” The country legend also shared that her wedding anniversary had just passed days before the interview.
“We got married down in Ringgold, Georgia,” Parton recalled, continuing, “And we would always go down to Ringgold so – in and around our anniversary every year since we were married.”
Honoring tradition, she visited the place where their marriage began.
“And so I went down there the other day on our anniversary. And they put a big plaque up in the yard of that church where we got married. It talks about us getting married there.”
She also reminisced about the simple joy of sharing a picnic with Dean during past anniversaries, including their first one, saying, “that’s where I spent my anniversary… the first one.”
“And I put his wedding ring around my little gold chain and wore it,” she recalled, adding, “it was just so – it was just so sweet, and it made me. It was good for me.”
