During his lifetime, Kenny Rogers had the privilege of performing with numerous superstars, many of whom became friends. Dolly Parton joined Rogers for “Islands in the Stream” in 1983 and “Real Love” in 1985. The two became fast friends and remained so for the rest of Rogers’ life.

To Parton and millions of others, Kenny Rogers was just as endearing as he was talented. Surrounded by candles and playing an acoustic guitar, Parton offered Rogers’ song “Sweet Music Man” online as a tribute to her friend. It was broadcast as part of the CMT Giants memorial concert held in honor of Rogers.

Parton wasn’t the only one performing in Rogers’ honor during this online tribute for the late 81-year-old country singer. Vince Gill, Amanda Shires, and Lionel Richie were only a few of the greats to pay homage to country music’s leading man.
