Seeing such a strong reaction from her audiences led the singer to choose the song as the final single from "Holly Dunn." Critics were just as happy with the track as fans were, resulting in Dunn receiving two Grammy Award nominations for it back in 1987.

In 1988, she brought yet another breathtaking performance to audiences when she performed "Daddy's Hands" alongside Parton on the short-lived variety show "Dolly." Prior to the song starting, Parton told Dunn that she was "one of the better things to come along in country music." Dunn then thanked Parton for being "such an inspiration" to country singers, especially those who were new to the industry.

Once "Daddy's Hands" began playing, Dunn started singing the first verse, easily capturing the attention of everyone in the audience. Throughout the duet, Parton and Dunn's voices blended beautifully during the song's chorus, with each singer taking a turn at singing the verses. Both women smiled as the song came to a close as they received a loud round of applause from the audience.
