Dolly Parton has been in the spotlight for decades as one of the best female country singers and musicians of all time. Known for her bubbly personality, unique vocal tone and beautiful songwriting skills, Parton has gone on to become a legend in the entertainment industry. She has continued to use her platform for the betterment of others, including her fellow stars in the music industry.

While Parton may not completely understand everything behind the scenes of Britney Spears’ conservatorship, she has certainly faced some hardships herself and has recently come out in support of the princess of pop. During an interview with Andy Cohen on his show “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” in July 2021, the country music star shared her own thoughts on Spears’ conservatorship battle, a battle that sparked the #FreeBritney movement.

The #FreeBritney movement has been circulating for years on various social media platforms, with fans urging anyone close to the pop star to help her with her legal issues surrounding her personal life and career. The movement reached a new wave of supporters after the 2021 documentary “Framing Britney Spears” was released, showing just how much Spears has been struggling to get legal control over her own life, as her father was her conservator, meaning he had legal control over the majority of her assets and life decisions.

Both Parton and Spears have had their own lawsuits and legal battles to face, and although they may not be the same, Parton has come out in support of the fellow singer to show that she is on Spears’ side.

CNN reported that Spears has been fighting to end having her father legally control her life and career, as he has been signed on as her prime conservator since 2008. What started as a temporary role to help Spears get back on track has turned into a permanent position as Jamie, Spears’ father, has taken complete control over his daughter’s life.

While appearing on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” on July 29, 2021, Parton expressed her support for fellow music star Spears in her ongoing legal issues surrounding her conservatorship.

“Well, I try to not get involved in other people’s business,” Parton said. “I think she is a wonderful artist, and I think she’s a wonderful girl, and I only wish her the best.”

Even though the country music star has not been in the same situation as Spears, she understands how difficult it is to maneuver lawsuits and legal battles. “I understand all those crazy things,” Parton told Cohen. “I went through a lot of that myself through a big lawsuit in my early days with Porter Wagoner trying to get out on my own.” The Independent reported that Wagoner was Parton’s former singing partner who filed a $3 million lawsuit against her in 1979, declaring that she had breached her contract. The lawsuit was settled out of court.

“It took a while to pay it off, but he got the first million dollars I ever made,” Parton said, as per The Independent. Continuing her conversation with Cohen, Parton showed her support for Spears and the hard situation she was in. “I understand where is coming from and how she feels,” Parton said. “So, I hope that all turns out that way that it should.”
