Huck the Roof Dog really lives up to his name. This fluffy retriever is on the roof of his home in Austin, Texas, nearly every day; his family can't keep him from getting up there, and they can't make him come down unless he's ready. Luckily, this family has no problem letting their dog enjoy his well-earned view, and he's keeping at it since 2017.

Huckleberry is a golden retriever. He's five years old, and he lives with his family in a one-story house in a suburban neighborhood. Huck, as his family affectionately calls him, isn't quite like other dogs. Sure, he's always there with a wagging tail and an enthusiastic attitude. But when he's not spending time with his favorite people, Huck has a taste for adventure that few other canines can match.

Jumping to New Heights

Every day, Huck's family lets him out into the backyard. They never let him go out there unless someone's home - and the reason is both heartwarming and laughable. Huck can't be in the backyard alone because it doesn't actually contain him. Like other dogs, he respects the boundaries of the fence with impunity. But unlike other pups, he put his mind to exploration and opportunity, reports CBS News.

The first time Huck's family saw him on the roof, they couldn't believe their eyes. Had their intrepid pup really managed to jump that far? Huck really seemed to like it on the roof. He wouldn't come down until he was coaxed with a toy and a treat. When he did, it was with a graceful leap that convinced the family of his athletic prowess. Apparently, Huck was a dog who could jump.

Strangers Get Involved

Huck's family quickly gave up on preventing their dog from jumping on the roof. He jumped so easily, acted to happy, and never seemed interested in jumping down into the more dangerous front yard. The family decided that Huck's behavior was obviously harmless, so they let their dog get comfortable with the new routine. Huck clearly enjoyed looking out at the world from his special vantage point, and the family enjoyed seeing their dog so happy and fulfulled.

All was well until the first stranger knocked at the family's door. The individual politely asked if they knew that their dog was on the roof. The family laughed and explained, the stranger left, and everything returned to normal. But then another passerby knocked on the door. And then another reports CBS News. The neighborhood was fairly large, and word hadn't got around that Huck was perfectly safe on his high-up perch.

The Solution: A Smart Sign

Eventually, the family grew tired of having to explain their dog's adorable behavior to an endless stream of visitors. Since they knew that Huck's cute antics would always attract attention, they started thinking of a long-term solution that would get the explanations to stop.

The solution they came up with is one of the timeless favorites of customer service representatives. The family took a cute picture of their dog, typed up a document, and printed out a sign to hang in their front yard. In a simple font, the sign said:

"Huckleberry is living up to his name and learned how to jump onto our roof from the backyard. We never leave him in the backyard without someone being at home. He will not jump off unless you entice him with food or a ball! We appreciate your concern but please do not knock on our door… we know he’s up there! But please feel free to take pictures of him and share with the world! #hucktheroofdog"

The sign might have reduced the amount of knocking on their door, but it also made this family and their dog famous on the internet. Huck the Roof Dog is an incredibly cute and talented canine, and his family clearly loves him very much.

Can any of your dogs jump this high? Your friends will need to see the pictures to believe it, so make sure to post this article where they can find it.
