Dog With Special Needs Was Abandoned At A Bar Because Someone Didn't Want Her

Emmie, a yorkshire-chihuahua cross with a deformed body, was abandoned at a pub in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire at just five months old.
The pup, who was found by an RSPCA inspector last year, was born with a twisted spine and is unable to straighten her legs.
When the RSPCA answered a call about a dog who was left in a bar, they figured that the rescue would be like most others. However, what they found was this small Chihuahua-Yorkie, left alone in a pub by her previous owners. Lisa Hens, a dog welfare expert at the RSPCA, explained in a statement obtained by express that the pups extreme deformities were likely a result of poor breeding.
“Unfortunately, dogs are often bred with their looks in mind and not their health and welfare," she said. “In Emmie’s case, her deformities may well be a result of poor breeding."
"A current trend is for breeders to produce tiny puppies by choosing the smallest bitch and dog to breed from: Also known as ‘teacup’ dogs. Although these tiny puppies are considered to be cute, deliberately breeding them to be so small can often lead to puppies having serious health problems, including issues with their legs where the bones are so fragile and frail that they can easily break, or genetic issues, which may be the cause of deformities, like poor Emmie.

The staff at the shelter were worried that they would not be able to find the puppy a new home. Luckily, the little dog had already stolen someone’s heart and soul. Kate Wright, an animal collection officer who works for the RSPCA, heard about Emmie's story and decided to adopt her.
“I cannot believe how happy and loving this little girl is when she has been so badly treated and let down by humans,” Wright told the Irish Independent. “She was so skinny and really weak when she arrived here. But she’s a little fighter and has a smashing little character.”
The pup now lives with Wright, her husband and two additional dogs in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. Although Emmie is unlikely to live a long life due to her health complications, she eventually gained her strength and will have a good-quality life.
However, there are still a lot of problems that Emmie has to deal with on a regular basis. For example, she still struggles with walking.
“Because of her legs she does struggle to walk for long distances but we never leave her behind,” Wright explained. “We make sure she gets exercise and, when she gets tired, we scoop her up and carry her in a special little sling we use.
“She’ll never go hungry again and will also have a cosy sofa to curl up on in the evenings. She’s such a wonderful little dog and I’m so pleased we’re able to give her the life she deserves.” She added.
