Cesar Millan, a dog trainer rose to fame with his Emmy-nominated television series 'Dog Whisperer With Cesar Milan'. However, it all started to fall apart in 2010. His beloved pit bull named Daddy passed away from cancer. Soon after, his wife filed for divorce as reported by LA Times. The pair had been married for 16 years at that point.

Despite the successes that Millan was enjoying, there were also a lot of setbacks. Millan realized that he had made some very bad business decisions that basically left him with nothing as reported by Inside Edition. He also believed that his sons were blaming him for the divorce. He began to feel as though everyone around him would simply be better off if he disappeared for good:

“I felt defeated, a big sense of guilt and failure . . . I was at the lowest level I had ever been emotionally and psychologically,” he wrote on his personal blog at that time.

By May of that year, Millan had reached rock bottom. In an attempt to end his life, the former 'dog whisperer' took a large combination of pills. When he awoke, he realized that he was in a psychiatric ward in a hospital.

Millan realized that he had something to live for after all. He decided right then and there to get back into dog training, starting with a 3-month-old pitbull named Junior. On Twitter, Millan praised his new companion:

"Second only to Daddy, Junior truly is one of my greatest teachers. That look on his face reminds me to stay in the moment and appreciate the bits of joy happening all around me."

Millan purchased 43-acres of land with the sole purpose of training dogs. He began to clear away the brush on the land in order to build roads and plant new trees. He also cut all ties with the company he now says is only out to make money. His new purpose is to help people and their beloved dogs.

Millan was able to turn his suicide attempt into something very positive. He learned more about depression and suicide and how to recognize the signs of both. He credits his success to two words: hard work. He truly believes that he has gotten even closer to people and dogs since his attempted suicide.

Caesar Millan was extremely blessed to be given a second chance at life. He is definitely not going to take it for granted. His goal in life is to take in people who need extra help training their dogs. He also hopes that he can provide assistance to others who are suffering from depression. According to Tampa Bay Times Millan revealed:

"You hear this sentence, 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.' That became real for me. It made me closer to people."

Today he is living with his new girlfriend Jahira Dar and his younger son as reported by LA Times. Cesar managed to get back up on his feet.

"I'm happy I went to rock bottom and now I know the symptoms," Millan said according to Tampa Bay Times. "As a father I want to see the signs before my kid or anyone around me in my life has any kind of depression, sadness. . . . My faith got stronger.
