Dog Takes Down Gunman And Saves Teens At Birthday Party Before Getting Shot Three Times And Losing His Life

It was March 10th, 2019. Laura Martinez was in the process of setting up in the garage for her teenage daughters’ party. The family dog, a Great Pyrenees named Zero, was hanging around while they set up for the teenager’s party. That was about the time that a 16-year old boy from their neighborhood came up and began to threaten them with a gun. The family had no warning about what was about to happen. That is when all hell broke loose.

First, the boy punched Martinez. He then pulled out a gun and began to shoot at the family. The first shot hit Taylor, Martinez’s son. The gunman began to gear up to fire another shot when an unexpected hero stepped in to save everyone.

Martinez' daughter Valori told ABC 13, "He jumped up to protect us and never showed any fear, even when he was struck."

Zero decided he wasn’t going to let his family get hurt without a fight. He jumped at the gunman and grabbed at his arm, taking one of the bullets in the process. Even though Zero was injured, he jumped up and was able to take the shooter down. Unfortunately, the gunman shot the dog two more times, killing the family dog.

Martinez was shot twice in the leg before the gunman was disarmed by the animal. Her daughter Valori was shot twice, once in her thigh and once in her back, just missing her spine. The whole family has been traumatized by the event.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in order to help out the family and their medical bills, as Martinez hasn’t been able to work since the shooting. Luckily, the gunman was caught and was given three separate bonds to the tune of $30,000 each.

The problem started when Martinez realized that the family had been robbed the day before. They quickly identified the teenager as he posted a picture wearing an article of clothing he had stolen from the home.

Martinez left a note at his house saying that she just wished to talk to his parents. That is when the trouble began. Javion Castenada was the teenager who decided to go after the family with a gun instead of dealing with the crime himself.
