Dog Objects Against Mom's New Couch Rule

Although humans can't talk to animals, there are other modes of communication that can be understood between them. Dogs are one such animal who we can interact very well with, especially owners and their pets, who at times seem to speak a shared language. That was the case when Bella, a boxer, was told that she could no longer sit on the couch after her owner bought a new one. The "conversation" that ensued was akin to speaking with a moody teenager or a toddler throwing a tantrum – and it's hilarious!

The video starts off with Bella front and center, who's looking at her owner with literal puppy dog eyes, as she is told she cannot sit on the couch. She immediately begins crying softly with her head tilted high. It's at once adorable and sad, but also reminiscent of a moody teenager or toddler having an argument with their parent.

Bella's mom continues: "I don't care how much you cry, you have to lay on the floor like a dog. You're a dog. Dogs can lay on the floor." As if she realizes her whining isn't enough, Bella begins turning her head to face sideways, as if she won't even look at her mom.

Despite Bella's best efforts, nothing seems to be changing her mom's mind, who even makes the case that Bella can lay down in other places around the house. She says: "You have your bed in the other room. Bella, you can lay on your bed. You don't want to lay on your bed? I'm sorry but the couches are brand new and they're not for dogs."

Bella hasn't stopped whining at this point, but it's clear she won't be getting her way. Her mom reiterates her last point by saying "No, really, they're for people," effectively closing the argument for good. At this point Bella admits defeat as she gazes off for a second, quiet now, and then turns around, slumps down on the floor, and faces back with the saddest look on her face, as if to say "You won, are you happy now?" Her mom finishes the conversation by telling Bella she's a "Good girl."

It's incredible to see how much the pair can actually communicate together without words, or at least in Bella's case. Some dog breeds are considered "talkative," often meaning that their range of vocalization is high or diverse. And while huskies and beagles are known for this, boxers are not necessarily, Bella has proved that theory wrong.

Bella's mom wrote about the background behind the story on her YouTube video, explaining: "She has a temperpedic bed in the same room with couches that is all her own so she never actually has to lie [on] the floor." She then goes on to say the reasoning for her decision is not to be cruel to Bella but because they have friends and family who are allergic to dog fur and its important to have spaces for them to be able to sit when they visit.

She finishes her video caption stating: "The purpose of the video was to share her temperament and enjoy her sass. She is a great dog that loves to 'talk' to us...#bellaboxer loves the attention she gets from a good 'debate!'"
