Dogs often sense when something is different in the home. They know when there are changes in the environment, and they know when someone is missing.

One trait that makes a dog a good pet to have is that it's loyal to its owner. A dog will stay by its owner's side through sickness and in health. There have been dogs seen in cemeteries on gravesites and dogs that sit beside children when they are missing.

Sadie is a 13-year-old collie mix that has been with her family since she was only eight weeks old. Sadie grew attached to all of the family members, but she especially enjoyed her father. When he passed away, it was heartbreaking. Emergency workers tried everything they could at the home, but Julia Beaulieu's husband passed away. When he was pronounced dead, Sadie walked over to him and laid down beside his hand. She nudged his hand to try to get him to wake up and pet her.

For the next few weeks, Sadie would look out the window to see if her father would come back home. She stopped eating and lost several pounds. Julia planned her husband's memorial service and decided to let Sadie have a part in it as well.

While at the visitation, Julia walked with Sadie to the casket. Sadie stood on her back legs and looked inside the casket. After a few moments, Sadie relaxed and looked at her human mother, as if in understanding.

When she got home, Sadie ate her first meal. Apparently, the funeral had given her the closure she needed.
