Dog Hit By Car Got Stuck In Bumper And Survived After Driver Went 16 Miles Before Noticing

On Monday, October 28th at 11 am in Schenectady, New York, a dog named Coco experienced a harrowing brush with death. A driver accidentally hit the poor pooch with her vehicle. Amazingly, Coco got stuck inside the car's bumper but still survived the ordeal.

As CBS News reported, the driver proceeded to continue down the road with Coco unwillingly along for the ride. It wasn't until 16 miles later that the driver began noticing some unusual noises emerging from the front end of the vehicle. When she decided to pull over and investigate, she was horrified to find Coco squished deep inside the car's damaged bumper.

The driver probably wondered how in the world she could have driven for approximately 45 minutes without noticing that a dog was implanted in her automobile. She likely felt terrible about what had happened. So she quickly dialed 911 on her cell phone to get the injured animal some help.

Authorities showed up to the location where the woman had stopped her vehicle. They used great care to remove the hurt dog from the car as gently as possible. Then they transferred her to the Hernas Veterinary Clinic. There Coco was given a thorough evaluation.

The clinic staff found that Coco had broken her elbow. "To be honest, I can't believe she survived it," veterinary tech Noella LaFreniere told CBS 17. After providing her with as much treatment as they could right away, they informed her owner that Coco was going to need a surgery that may cost as much as $4,000.

Thankfully, Coco's life is starting to return to normal. She's showing signs of a healthy appetite and she's staying properly hydrated under the watchful care of the veterinary team. The only real challenge they seem to be facing is keeping this active dog from overexerting herself before she goes in for surgery. They don't want her to accidentally make her injuries any worse than they already are.

To help cover Coco's surgery expenses, the caring folks at the clinic have been working on starting a GoFundMe page for her. Even before that effort is completed, generous donors can contact the clinic if they want to contribute.
