Dog Found In Garbage Gives Comfort To His Foster Mom During Chemotherapy

Jun 05, 2019 by apost team

Last May in Lewiston, Maine, a little Chihuahua was discovered by the side of a road discarded in a pile of garbage. A story on the news about this sad little pup captured the attention of Laurie Marcotte. Laurie fell head over heels in love with the poor little pooch, immediately contacted the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society to foster little “Motto”.

When Motto first arrived at the humane society, he was suffering from severe dental disease. The veterinarian treating the little Chihuahua said Motto's mouth was “one big ulcer.” Luckily, after dental surgery, the white and fawn-spotted sweetie was ready to meet Laurie.

Ms. Marcotte is an experienced Chihuahua foster mom, and was well prepared to heal Motto’s wounded soul. Little did she know, in return, Motto would provide constant love and support during her chemotherapy treatment.

While Motto's spirit grew stronger from Laurie’s positivity and strength, Laurie found emotional comfort in the sweet little Chihuahua's calm and loving demeanor.

"I said, 'If that little dog that's in the news needs foster care, I would be more than happy to take care of him through his ordeal,'" Marcotte said to WGME. "I was home all day long. I, too, was sick. And I had the time and the ability to take care of him."

Fortunately, Laurie finished her last chemotherapy treatment in June. Just a week later, dear little Motto went to his loving new forever home. Laurie will sorely miss the little snuggle-bug, but finds comfort knowing Motto will be safe and loved forever.

And Laurie is looking forward to setting more abused Chihuahuas on the road to recovery, helping them to find their very own forever homes.

Lewiston officials are still looking for whoever abused little Motto, and left him to die in the garbage. But everyone in Lewiston, and around the world, is happy this deserving little dog not only learned what it’s like to be loved, but also how to love.

Without sweet Motto's undying devotion, Laurie Marcotte's recovery from cancer may not have had such a happy ending.
