Dog Falls Madly In Love With Local Mailmen — Mom Starts Documenting Their Daily Routine

Jun 06, 2020 by apost team

Playful six-year-old golden retriever Pippin from South Carolina adores her daily visits from her best friends, the local mailmen, so her mom started documenting the daily routine.

Dogs and delivery people often have very special relationships. They see each other almost every day, after all. Outside their families, delivery people are some of the humans that dogs see most often. And many of these workers have their own dogs, too. They often love their little buddies. In fact, some mail carriers will even bring treats along for the dog friends along their route.

However, not every delivery person-dog relationship is perfect. In fact, one delivery man in South Carolina was so afraid of dogs that he refused to get out of the truck once. He works for FedEx.

And when he heard the bark of a dog, he just didn't want to bring the package to the door. Not unless the barking dog had gone inside. That dog is a golden retriever named Pippin.

Aged six, Pippin is a very friendly dog. But she hasn't always had the greatest track record when it came to deliveries. Once, she stole a sandwich from a UPS driver, dashing into the truck to get it. Though he was polite about the incident, her family knew she could do better. They felt bad that the poor man had lost his lunch. And truth be told, in her little dog heart, Pippin knew that she could do better, too.

Luckily, Pippin has a good family. With guidance from them, she has learned to be a little bit better with time. She'll probably always get excited, bark, and run when she hears a delivery truck coming. But she's helped her FedEx driver get over his fears. It took about a year, but with time, Pippin and her mom got him to come around.

The process that Pippin's mom, Kayla, used to make the change is called sensitization. Gradually, she introduced Pippin and him to each other.

He thought he'd never be happy to see and pet one. But now, he and Pippin are the best of friends. The change is a big credit to his willingness to change. But it's also a testament to Pippin's trainability and desire to be a good dog. She's made a lot of progress, too.
