This summer, a poor pooch who was discovered swimming alone in Lake Michigan was rescued by Jeannie Wilcox and her family on a boating trip. Luckily, Wilcox was able to reunite the dog with their human family. While the reunion was especially heartwarming and tender, it just goes to prove that some tales really do have satisfying conclusions.

The dog in the water was barely able to stay afloat, according to WOOD TV8. Despite all the canine's efforts, its head kept dipping under the blue mass. It was plain to see that without aid, this dog would not have long left in this world. As they were people with a good heart, it was impossible for them to sit by and watch the pup fight for its life.

After all, who could resist the eyes of a dog in distress? Man’s best friend has been giving us comfort, companionship, entertainment, and warmth for hundreds and hundreds of years. Why expect then that they wouldn’t have the same effect on us mentally? When you think about it all, was it mankind who domesticated the dog, or was it the dog that domesticated mankind?

Once you become the parent of a dog, there’s no turning back. Just imagine how heartbreaking it must have felt for the family to not have a pet to return home to. It’s not a surprise that the owners leaped for joy once their prized pooch was returned to their doorstep. It is surely going to be a family reunion that they will never forget.

In this age of uncertainty and strife, we can all agree as humans on one thing: how completely adorable and amazing our canine companions are! However, the tragedies of life are still possible; dogs are prone to mistakes and accidents just like humans.

While we don’t know for sure how the dog wound up in the water, she can thank her red fur for being the means by which she was noticed and was able to be rescued, according to People. The unfortunate gal on Lake Michigan was spotted thanks to the keen eyes of seafaring humans nearly eight hours into their nautical journey.

The group was sailing their way to Frankfort from Grand Haven. Jeannie Wilcox, crew member and animal lover, started screaming, “Dog in the water! Dog in the water!” after she found the pup treading water. According to People, she estimated that the dog had been treading water for over an hour before she was found.

Exhausted, but determined to see her family again, the dog made its way onto the boat’s swimming platform. Once aboard the platform, the pup was safely moved onto the boat. Thankfully, there was information on the dog’s collar relating to the contact information of the family. They were able to be reached from the boat, and the sailing group immediately decided to take a detour to return the gal home!

After about four hours more, the team made its way to Belmont, as People reports. All the while, the crew made sure that the dog was well taken care of. However, the poor gal was lying down most of the time resting!

The emotional family met their dog back on the dock, and they expressed all of their thanks for the kind sailing crew that delivered their fur baby back home. After hearing about how the dangers of the water were never to be underestimated, the family vowed to be more vigilant with the care and training of their dog, reports People.
