The internet is an amazing resource to bring pet owners together. You can share funny stories and cute pictures of your pets but, more importantly, stay informed about how to keep them healthy and happy.

Dog owners can learn from the sad story that Christina Young shared.

Christina was a dog owner who would have done anything for her pet, but due to a common and normal mistake, her furry friend tragically passed away.

She shared her story to warn pet owners from making the same common mistake that she did. One day when Christina was at work, her dog managed to snatch a partially full bag of chips from the kitchen counter. He chowed through all the chips and stuck his head in the bag to look for crumbs. His inhaling and exhaling made the bag get tighter and tighter over his head until the poor dog suffocated.

She was shocked that her smart dog wasn't able to get the bag off with his paws. But after internet research and hearing similar stories from other heartbroken pet owners, she realized how common this mistake is.

She states that pets can suffocate on containers and bags for everything like dog treats, cereal, bread, popcorn, and potato chips. Christina further says that three to five incidents like this are reported every single week, and almost half of those happen when the owner is in the house, unaware that their pet is suffocating.

It only takes about three minutes for suffocating to occur, so pet owners may not have time to notice and save their pet.

She was surprised at how common this mistake is, as she had never heard of it happening. Christina cautions other pet owners to be mindful of what is left on their countertops and tables so their pets stay safe and avoid this preventable death.
