Dog Desperately Chases Owner After He's Abandoned On Side Of Road

It’s a sad fact that each year, over 5 million dogs and cats enter the shelter system after being abandoned by their owners or picked up as strays by local animal control.

Whether owners are dumping their pets over behavioral problems, work or family issues— companion animals often find themselves at the humane society waiting on a new family to hopefully adopt them.

Yet a video shot by Stephen Sage Miller out of California proves that perhaps these dogs and cats are the lucky ones—at least their owner didn’t choose to dump them on the side of the road to fend for themselves for food, water, and shelter.

Even without hearing the interaction between owner and the big black dog, the video Miller uploaded says it all. On a quiet road, a black car is pulled over and a tall man can be seen interacting with a happy, bouncy lab-like dog.

The dog is overjoyed to be with its owner as it jumps up and down and wags its tail valiantly in an effort to show its love. The owner, however, is not to be dissuaded in his course of action. He keeps pushing the dog to the side, trying to deter the dog from its show of affection.

Miller films the entire encounter even as the owner shoves the dog away one more time and turns his back to enter his car. As the vehicle drives away, the confused canine continues to show his loyalty as he paces the side of the car running to keep up until the car speeds away.

The Daily Mail reports that thanks for Miller’s video, Kern County, California, is seeking abandonment charges on the individual that left the poor black dog on the side of the road, but in the meantime, this pup is looking for a home at the local shelter.
