Dog Adopted From The Shelter Can't Stop Smiling After Stepping Into His Forever Home

Capone is a 7-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix who has been a resident of the Ionia County Animal Shelter for a long time. He was trying to be patient as he waited to find his forever family. Luckily, good things usually do come to those who wait for them. This precious pup was about to be rewarded for his patience.

Capone arrived at the shelter in 2017 and was adopted shortly after. However, he didn’t quite get along with another dog in the home, so he was returned for his second stay. He became outwardly depressed. He stopped eating and moped around the shelter day after day.

The poor dog was not only heartbroken that he lost his home, but workers could tell that he was terrified of being rejected again. They said that his attitude had completely changed from the first time he had been there. He became extremely needy and would always want to touch someone there. He became known as the “Velcro Dog” among the shelter workers.

The shelter knew that Capone would do much better if they found him a home that didn’t already have pets in it. They took to social media to show off what a wonderful dog Capone was. Luckily, their strategy worked.

A couple sent a private Facebook message to the page asking about Capone. They loved to read the stories about him and were ready to adopt. When they arrived at the shelter that day, the couple had already purchased a name tag with his name on it. They were certainly ready to get the adoption underway!

Capone had become pretty picky about who he interacted with ever since having his heart broken, so the staff was hopeful that he would take to the couple. They were right- Capone ran right into their arms when they knelt down to greet him.

The lonely dog was finally going to go to his forever home, and the staff could not have been happier about it. All the time they had spent on him was finally paying off! His new parents even took a picture of the smiling dog when they got home. The picture, and his story have since gone viral.
