Dog Abandoned In A Park With His Favorite Toy And A Note Finally Gets Loving Home He Deserves

If you own a dog, you’d likely do anything to keep them safe from harm’s way. You’d never abandon them or leave them behind, no matter what the circumstances. Unfortunately, we still hear stories about animals being left behind by their owners every day. No matter what the reason, it’s a cruel way to treat the animal that is meant to be man’s best friend.

But when one dog named Duke was abandoned at a park in cold January weather, his life got a new beginning. The dog wasn’t wandering around or lost. His owners had actually left him tied to a tree in the park with a note. When Stephanie Dagenhart found Duke, she was walking her two dogs. When she decided to read the note, it was a short sentence about Duke. The paper stated that he needed a new home and for a family to love him, but that they had left him with his toy, food, and crate in order to get him started.

Stephanie was not moved by the note, as she was rather disgusted with the state that Duke was left in. The weather was freezing outside, and Duke was noticeably shaking in the cold weather. Stephanie knew that she couldn’t leave the dog in these conditions. She immediately called the police for assistance. Because of her two dogs, she was wary to get closer to the dog, but she called her fiancé to come to pick their dogs up.. Duke was obviously hesitant and distrustful of humans, and even growled at Stephanie when she approached. Knowing the power that social media holds, Stephanie, posted a picture of Duke on Facebook to try to find the owners. Soon the cops arrived, who notified the animal control services to come to get the dog.

As Duke was transported to BARCS, Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, he was a little nervous about his new surroundings. But after a few moments, he acclimated to his new quarters and ended up showing his true colors. Duke’s personality shone through, and he was a complete sweetheart. Even though he was cruelly abandoned by the only home he ever knew, he was still optimistic about his future and open to meeting new people. His owners could have easily taken him to a shelter instead of leaving him in the freezing cold. But Stephanie’s instincts to help Duke actually worked. While at the shelter, a U.S. Army Specialist named Wallace White came to visit him. White immediately knew that he wanted to adopt Duke, and the rest is history! Duke will now get to live out the rest of his days in a loving home, and he’ll never be left behind or alone again.
