It's no secret the pollution is harming the planet. Every year, new studies confirm that the current rate of human consumption is affecting the natural processes of the world. There are environments and habitats throughout every continent that are being directly affected by human behavior.

In fact, many scientists think that the Earth's resources won't be able to sustain the human race for much longer if our behavior continues to have such a negative impact. Despite all of these warnings, very few countries have taken the necessary steps to rectify the situation.

Plastic waste is one of the number one contributors to the pollution of the planet. Every household is responsible for several tons of plastic waste each year. This isn't a surprising statistic as a majority of products are wrapped in plastic for protection, cleanliness, and convenience.

While most people don't think twice about throwing a piece of plastic in their trash can, it's always a mystery where these pieces of waste end up. Unfortunately, a lot of plastic waste is left in the ocean. Everyone has seen footage of turtles trapped in netting, dolphins eating plastic bottles, and other disturbing incidents.

There is another related video that has recently gone viral.

In the video, a small octopus can be seen hiding inside a plastic cup. Because of their soft bodies, octopuses are forced to find protection elsewhere. A majority of species use shells to fend off predators and hide from prey.

With their tentacles, octopuses are able to hold one shell above their heads and one beneath their bodies.

In this footage, one octopus has used a plastic cup instead of a shell. A group of friendly divers pass by and decide to help the poor octopus. A plastic cup can't offer much protection from other marine life.

Although the octopus is timid at first, it eventually becomes comfortable with the divers. While one of the divers shoots a video of the interaction, another provides a series of shells for the octopus.

Unfortunately, the octopus doesn't seem too sure about the first shell. He reaches out a tentacle to feel the texture and size of the shell but isn't impressed. In fact, the diver has to offer over five different shells before the octopus finally settles on his favorite.

Eventually, he ditches the plastic cup for a more suitable form of protection.
