Alice Smith was diagnosed with polio when she was just an infant. Before her beloved parents passed away, they organized for their home to be paid in full so she could live there for the rest of her life. However, rising tax costs made Alice fall behind on what she owed on the house. Alice was going to be evicted until online donations helped her pay off her $16,000 of debt.

According to Fox 29 News, before Alice's parents passed away they knew that Alice's physical and mental disabilities would make it nearly impossible for her to pay for her own home in the small town of Haddonfield, New Jersey. So they paid off their home so Alice could spend the rest of her days there.

This plan worked well for several decades as Alice was able to live in the home independently with some minor help from loyal caretakers.

However, an unforeseen change threatened Alice's current living situation. The taxes for the home were raised to $8,500 per year. The 60-year-old woman eventually fell behind on her payments and was going to be forced to foreclose on her home. The increased taxes were too much for Alice.

The funds that her beloved parents had saved for their entire lives wasn't enough to cover these rising costs. The elderly and disabled woman was about to be evicted from her childhood home.

In an interview with FOX News, Alice was asked how she would react if someone told her to move from the home. In an expressive response, Alice said that she would tell that individual to "go to hell."

Eventually, Alice's family wasn't able to keep up with their repayments for the higher taxes. It was unfortunate Alice's home state of New Jersey happens to have some of the highest property taxes in the country. In addition, the old home needed several repairs to stay in operating condition.Although Alice's family attempted a reverse mortgage, it wasn't possible in the end.

Alice's grandson and brother knew that the list of available options was growing smaller with each passing day. They decided to start a crowdfunding campaign to help raise money for renovations on Alice's home.

With the upgrades and repairs, Alice's family was hoping the home would qualify for a reverse mortgage. Alice and her family were blown away by the public's reaction to her situation. The local community ended up donating more than enough money and Alice was able to keep her home.
