Dogs with disabilities or other ailments are often the last pups to get adopted. Yet, despite being a double amputee, Nellie beat the odds. She was found wandering the streets of Romania having given up hope. Now she is excited to have her forever home.

You can tell in the video that despite her physical difference, Nellie does not feel sorry for herself. In fact, it seems as if a set of back legs would only slow her down! When dealing with a foster dog, the process of rehabilitating the animal can be a difficult touch-and-go scenario. This situation is made even more difficult when the dog is a stray. It is very common for stray dogs, especially injured ones, to have fear or aggression towards outsiders.

Yet, you can see in the video that little Nellie is no worse for the wear. This beautiful little girl does not have time to worry about the fact that she might be different from other pups. Rather, she just wants to play, have fun, and explore.

It is not clear exactly what type of dog Nellie is. She appears to be a mixture of husky and german shepherd dog, but she may have other breeds mixed in. It is undeniable that she is a beautiful and charming ball of fluff, regardless of her specific breed. It is also not clear what happened to Nellie. When her new owner found her, her legs were completely paralyzed. Thus, it was clear something had to be done. Should they try and save the legs, or realize they would likely never work again?

Nellie's foster mom consulted with a local veterinarian, and it was clear that Nellie's legs were beyond repair. Often, having non-functioning limbs is simply an impairment to a dog's movement. Dogs are particularly adept at overcoming movement limitations. Luckily, it is common for a dog to live a long and happy life while missing as many as three limbs. If the dog is a puppy, their ability to adapt is even better.

After the decision was made to amputate Nellie's non-functioning back legs, she still had a long road to recovery ahead of her. In total, it took Nellie over three months to fully heal from the surgery and to gain the strength to walk again. Not only was Nellie injured, but she was also malnourished. Thus, the healing process was a difficult and slow one.

Once Nellie had healed, her future was still not entirely clear. Would she get adopted? Put in a shelter? No one knew, including her foster mom. Fostering animals is an incredibly rewarding process, but it is also a very emotional one. The unfortunate reality is that you can't keep all the dogs, and saying goodbye is never easy. However, Nellie was different.

As Nellie grew, learned, and flourished, the decision became clear. Nellie was unlike any other foster that her mom has seen. Nellie was different. Nellie was a fighter. Her mom decided that there was only one possibility: Nellie had found her forever home and would stay with her foster mom. This video shows the rare joy of a dog realizing that it has finally found a home. That it has finally found love. That it doesn't need to worry any longer. Nellie's physical differences don't stop her from celebrating. She runs in circles, ecstatic at the news. She even jumps up on the sofa despite being a bipedal pup.

Having a foster dog is an incredible experience and the excitement you see in Nellie's reaction is living proof. Tell us your favorite thing about Nellie in the comments and be sure to pass this article along to all dog lovers in your life!
