Dick Van Dyke turned 100 on December 13, 2025. On August 28, 2026, he posted a workout video.
Van Dyke, born Dec. 13, 1925, shared a clip to Instagram of himself upside down on an inversion table — a device that secures users by the ankles and tilts them backward to decompress the spine and improve flexibility. He captioned it: "#DVD100 1/2 workout inversion table #keepmoving." The song playing in the background was "Keep Stretching."
"I hate how he's more athletic than me," one commenter wrote. "Ok, it's official: the rest of us have absolutely no excuse to not be exercising!" wrote another. "I'm 29 and struggling with exercise, then here's the 100-year-old legend himself casually inverting his body like no big deal," a third noted.
The inversion table is not a new addition to Van Dyke's routine. His regimen — done up to three times a week — includes weight machines, circuit training, stomach exercises, stretching, and yoga. "I've always exercised three days a week," he told Ted Danson's podcast in January 2025. His wife, Arlene Silver, born Aug. 23, 1971, whom he married in February 2012, has been the organizing force behind the consistency. "My wife, god bless her, makes sure I go to the gym three days a week and do a full workout," he told CBS News in 2024.
He also dances between machines rather than walking. Rick Springfield witnessed it in September 2025 at the same gym. "Who should be there but 99-year-old Dick Van Dyke working out on every machine," Springfield wrote. "He got up from the chest press machine and did a little dance step. Amazing."
On August 28, Van Dyke went upside down. He told his followers to keep moving. They listened.

Van Dyke's approach to aging has been consistent for as long as he has been speaking about it — essentially since the publication of his 2015 memoir, "Keep Moving: And Other Tips and Truths About Aging." The title came directly from advice he received at age 40, when a doctor told him that severe arthritis would put him in a walker within seven years. Van Dyke's response, as described by his publisher, was to break into a soft-shoe dance step.
He has credited several things with his longevity — movement, optimism, his marriage to Silver, and an inability to sustain genuine feelings of anger or hate. "Anger is one thing that eats up a person's insides — and hate," he told PEOPLE in November 2025. "And I never really was able to work up a feeling of hate. I think that is one of the chief reasons I'm still here."
He has also been honest about what is getting harder. "I miss movement. I've got one game leg from I don't know what," he told interviewers in December 2025. He added: "I still try to dance."
He turned 100 in December. He is on an inversion table in August. "I feel like I'm about 13," he told PEOPLE ahead of his centenary. "I never wake up in a bad mood."
The inversion table video was the latest installment in a social media presence that has become one of the most beloved on Instagram — not because it is polished or strategic, but because it is simply Van Dyke doing what he has always done, and still calling it a half workout. One hundred years old. Upside down. Telling everyone to keep moving.
