Diane Keaton is an American actress that has been working in Hollywood since 1966. She has achieved many accolades since her start, taking home an Academy Award, British Academy Film Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award. Keaton has had a successful career but hasn’t been as lucky in love. Though she has been connected to a number of high-profile individuals, the actress has never been married and said she prefers it that way.

Keaton began her career in entertainment performing on Broadway. In 1969 she received a Tony Award for her performance in “Play it Again, Sam.” She also starred in the film adaptation of the play. Keaton transitioned into mostly appearing in films and won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1977 for her role in “Annie Hall.” Keaton established herself as a talented comedic actress but decided to take on more dramatic roles to avoid being typecast.

One of the films that Keaton is best known for is “The Godfather.” She played Kay Adams-Corleone and it is still one of her most popular roles. It was on the set of this movie that she began to develop a crush on her co-star Al Pacino. The pair got together after filming the sequel “The Godfather II” and broke up sometime after the third film in the franchise was released.

It is said that there was an ultimatum that Keaton made that Pacino didn’t agree to and that was the reason for their breakup. Keep reading to learn more about Keaton’s love life and why she and Pacino parted ways.

It's not uncommon for single people to go through dating droughts. But it appears Diane Keaton is taking the word “drought” to a new level. She says she hasn't had a date in 35 years. The actress recently opened up about her dating life during an interview with the magazine InStyle. She said while she has several male friends, men never ask her out. “I haven’t been on a date in, I would say, 35 years. No dates. I have a lot of friends, but no dates. No mwah-mwah," she said.

It was not the first time Keaton opened up about her relationships, or a lack thereof. The 75-year-old once told People that she had been a single woman all of her life. But she added that it's not something that makes her sad. "I don't think it would have been a good idea for me to have married, and I'm really glad I didn't," said Keaton

Dating is all behind her now so you won't find her on any dating websites. But Keaton admits she spends a lot of time on her Instagram page. So perhaps she can find love there.

While she may be single now, that wasn’t always the case. As an actress who has lived in the public eye for several decades, Keaton is no stranger to high-profile relationships. She once dated Al Pacino and Warren Beatty. After filming the 1981 movie “Reds” with Beatty, Keaton fell in love. “He is just a brilliant character,” she said of her co-star. “So complex and charming. He should have made more movies.” Another Hollywood romance of the star’s that started on screen was her relationship with Pacino.

The Godfather” was the film that launched Keaton into stardom. She revealed that during filming she “had a crush” on Pacino but didn’t act on her feelings until after the second film was released.

Even years later, Keaton can recall how strongly she felt for the actor. “I was mad for him. Charming, hilarious, a nonstop talker,” Keaton said to PEOPLE in 2017. “There was an aspect of him that was like a lost orphan, like this kind of crazy idiot savant. And oh, gorgeous!”

Pacino is an incredible actor and has a commanding presence. According to Keaton, he was the focus of the “Godfather” franchise, even for her. “For me, the Godfathers, all three of them, were about one thing — Al. It was as simple as that,” she said in her memoir “Then Again.”

PEOPLE reported that Keaton and Pacino were happy together until she brought up an ultimatum about getting married. “I worked hard on that one. I went about it in not a perfect way,” she recalled

In a speech, Pacino shared some advice that Keaton gave him in the past. “I remember leaving the house once, and I had an interview. And I’m very uncomfortable here, but at interviews, I’m even more uncomfortable, believe it or not,” he said. “And she was very encouraging, helping me along, and as I was leaving, she called out to me, and said, ‘Al, you’re going to be o.k. Just remember, whatever you do, don’t say you’re an artist.”

While she is still single, Keaton lives a full life and has adopted two children. She is happy with her single status so we are happy for her.
