Determined 11-Year-Old Boy Grows His Hair Out In Order To Donate 12 Inches To Wigs For Kids

A young boy in Montana performed the ultimate act of kindness when he decided to help give back to others. At only 11 years old, Conor Rogers is already making a difference. Conor, from Kalispell, Montana, decided to grow out his hair so he could donate more than 12 inches of it to the non-profit organization Wigs For Kids. The organization works with licensed hair technicians to help provide children who are losing their hair due to illnesses and other health conditions with custom-fitted wigs.

Losing your hair can be sad and scary, so being able to provide children with well-fitted wigs can help make them feel a little better and give their confidence the boost it needs. This can also help them cling onto a sense of normalcy while they battle their illness or other serious health condition by making them look more like themselves. Wigs For Kids has been helping children for over 30 years with their hair replacement systems and support.

Conor had been growing his hair out for a while and really liked how long it was, but when he saw one of his father’s friends donate their hair, he wanted to do his part to help out, too. In June 2021, Conor made the choice to cut and donate his gorgeous long locks to a great cause so he could help children in need. This tiny ray of sunshine has helped bring some hope and light to others in his community, as well as those involved with Wigs For Kids.

“I was just like, let’s grow out my hair and donate it,” Conor told KPAX-TV. His goal was to help other children who have lost their hair. “Feels good that someone else that has cancer or a disorder that lost all of their hair can actually have hair and my hair, and it just makes me feel really good,” Conor said.

Conor’s mother, Meghan Sistok, chimed in and talked about how determined he was to help the cause. “He mentioned that he really likes his hair now, and his sister gave him an out and said, ‘Well, you don’t have to cut it,’ and he even today he says, ‘No, I said I was going to do it and I’m going to do it,’” Sistok said.

Conor went to Amore’ Salon and met with licensed hair technician Lindsey Komenda to get his hair cut and ready to donate to Wigs For Kids. “It’s really important because the children don’t have the proper sizing and various other things of a more traditional fitted wig that you could purchase so that they have to be custom made,” Komenda said.

Komenda explained that she believes hair donations help children who are suffering from illnesses and other health conditions that cause them to lose their hair feel a bit more normal. “Helping you guide them makes them feel wonderful, and you keep them feeling normal through a really hard and difficult time,” she said.

After plenty of cutting and some buzzing on the sides, Conor’s haircut was complete, and his donation was ready to be delivered to Wigs For Kids. Sistok expressed how happy she was with her son’s decision to grow out his hair and donate it to kids in need. “I’m very proud of you,” she told him.
