Derek Fowlds From 'Heartbeat' And 'Yes Minister' Has Died Aged 82

British actor Derek Fowlds from acclaimed TV shows “Heartbeat” and Yes Minister” has passed away at the age of 82.

It was reported by the BBC that he passed away at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, England after battling pneumonia. He is survived by his sons Jamie and Jeremy, and was once married to Wendy Tory and then Lesley Judd from "Blue Peter." 

"You couldn't have met a nicer person ever" said his assistant Helen Bennett to the BBC. "He was just a wonderful man and I will miss him terribly. He was the most beloved man to everybody who ever met him, he never had a bad word to say about anybody and he was so well respected, adored by everyone."

The actor had a long storied career in iconic British television programs, from children’s shows to sitcoms.

Director Edgar Wright who was behind “Ant-Man” and “Hot Fuzz” sent out his condolences on Twitter, mentioning his roles of Mr. Derek on the kids show “The Basil Brush Show” and Sir Bernard Woolley from the government comedy “Yes Minister.”

Wright accompanied his tweet with a scene from the latter saying, “This is as classic a scene in British comedy as they come.”

He also had an 18-year stint on the cop drama “Heartbeat,” and his coworker at the show Jason Durr called him “a great actor and a kind, intelligent man," on Twitter.

The talented thespian from London wrote in his 2015 autobiography “A Part Worth Playing,” that he started acting “Just for kicks” as quoted by the BBC. He wound up having great success with it and doled advice to young actors in The Stage publication that “an acting career is a marathon, not a sprint and I wish all of today’s actors good luck with it.”
