The Academy Award-winning actor was driving in West Hollywood when he spotted a homeless man standing in the street in the face of oncoming traffic on Thursday afternoon.

According to TMZ, who first reported the story on Friday, Denzel got out of his car and stepped in to remove the man from the dangerous situation. The 65-year-old actor was wearing a mask when he came to the rescue, keeping his distance from the man throughout most of their encounter.

In the video, Denzel looks like he is consoling the man – who was likely homeless – by gently squeezing his shoulder, patting his back and talking to him in a calming manner.

Towards the end, Denzel is also seen trying to give the man what looks like a bottle of orange juice and a sandwich. The man was unable to take the food from Denzel as he was briefly detained at this point, so one of the police officers took it for him. The man was restrained momentarily, but then released shortly after, according to TMZ.

Denzel’s act of kindness is just an addition to the cases of celebrities being good samaritans.

Some other examples include Ryan Gosling rescuing a blogger from being hit by a car in 2012, John Malkovich helping a man who was hit by a piece of fallen scaffolding by staunching the bleeding until paramedics arrived and Brad Pitt saving a little girl from getting trampled by a large crowd.
