Denise Richards Celebrates Daughter Eloise's 15th Birthday With the Most Heartfelt Words She Has Ever Written About Motherhood
May 27, 2026 by apost team
Denise Richards has always been open about the joys and challenges of raising her youngest daughter. On May 25, 2026, Eloise Joni Richards turned 15 — and Richards, born Feb. 17, 1971, marked the milestone the way she marks most things involving her family: publicly, warmly, and without filters.
Richards adopted Eloise shortly after her birth in May 2011. She told PEOPLE at the time: "I felt like I wasn't done having children, and I've always wanted to have a large family." She was raising Eloise as a single parent, having divorced Charlie Sheen in 2006. "After my divorce I felt like, 'Oh well, I'm sure I'll soon enough get remarried and have my family grow,' and that wasn't in the cards at the time, so I decided to expand my family on my own," she told PEOPLE in 2012.
Eloise was diagnosed a decade ago with Chromosome 8, Monosomy 8p — a rare genetic condition that causes developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and physical abnormalities. The diagnosis has shaped the way Richards talks about motherhood, always with candor and an absence of self-pity.
Richards also shares two older daughters with ex-husband Charlie Sheen, born Sept. 3, 1965 — Sami, born in 2004, and Lola, born in 2005. Of her accomplishments, she told PEOPLE in 2019 that she is "most proud" of how she has raised her three daughters, "especially in a time that is very different" from her own upbringing.
Just ahead of Eloise's birthday, Richards told PEOPLE she could not believe how quickly the years had passed. "She's turning 15 and it's crazy to think," she said. "It's hard, too, because she's not going to be able to drive, but she's at that age."
Then she sat down to write the words that said everything she had been holding.

On May 25, 2026, Richards posted a compilation video to Instagram marking Eloise's 15th birthday — a montage of joyful moments set to Eloise's favorite song. The caption she wrote alongside it was one of the most personal things she has shared publicly in years.
"Wishing my beautiful Eloise Happy 15th Birthday! I can't believe 15 yrs old already," she began. "Having a special needs child in a lot of ways gets more challenging with me worrying more about her future the older she gets. My mom always had said, a special needs child is an angel from God and Eloise is the biggest Angel with the biggest selfless heart. I'm so proud of her strength and kindness."
She went on to express gratitude for the network of people surrounding Eloise.
"I'm so grateful for her older sisters, my friends who are my family, and my dad who is the best Grandpa and father figure for Eloise. Always there for her, no matter what. We love you girlie!"
The post drew responses from former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" castmates Kathy Hilton and Camille Meyer, as well as from Lola Sheen, who commented simply: "This is so cute mom."
For Richards, the milestone carried a specific weight. Parenting a child with special needs at 15 is different from parenting a toddler — the questions about the future become more immediate, the gaps between what peers are doing and what is possible for Eloise become more visible. She did not shy away from that reality. She acknowledged it, as she always does, alongside the love. "Eloise is the biggest Angel with the biggest selfless heart." That was the sentence she chose to center. Everything else followed from there.
