Schools have been shutting down throughout India during the pandemic, as they have been around the globe. But unlike other countries, many children in India don't have the option of remote learning. It was starting to seem like they might lose a valuable part of their education--until one dedicated teacher stepped in.

According to NDTV News, Rudra Rana is a teacher who works in the Indian villages. When schools started shutting down, he knew there was only one thing to do. If the students couldn't come to school, he'd bring the school to the students!

A new form of education that his students are sure to appreciate

Every day, Rana visits his students on his motorcycle, complete with an umbrella fixed to the top and a blackboard strapped to the side. He also brings books and flashcards so his students have everything they need to get a quality education. Rana calls this system a "mohalla," which means neighborhood classes.

And his students definitely aren't missing out. Every day, Rana drives throughout the villages and greets his students right at their doors. He brings a bell that he rings to start the school day, just as he would if they were still attending classes in a schoolhouse. Once the students have assembled and said their daily prayers, it's time to get to work.

A safer way to go to school

This method isn't just convenient for the students--it's also much safer. Instead of going to school with a group of students and potentially exposing themselves (and later, their entire families) to the virus, the students meet in small groups with their teacher. Rana travels from region to region, bringing his students the education that they need to be intelligent, well-rounded citizens of India.

While he teaches the regular subjects, the pandemic is also an important topic of interest. Rana teaches them about the coronavirus and keeps them up-to-date so they know what's going on in the world. These students are incredibly privileged to have such a smart, dedicated teacher in their lives.

And the students definitely appreciate it

Students reported being grateful that Rana visits them in their villages every day. They earn all their subjects and get a chance to ask questions, just as if they were in a regular schoolhouse. They also get the chance to study independently. These students could be sitting at home, trying to educate themselves; instead, Rana is bringing the education to them. We can't imagine a more worthwhile way to spend your time during the pandemic.

According to NDTV News, one student says, "We get to learn a lot from these classes. Sir comes here daily and teach us and also answer our doubts. We are enjoying this method of teaching."

The media has also taken notice. A video of Rana driving around and greeting his students has circulated the Internet and racked up thousands of views. We're not sure what Rana thinks of this publicity, but we're grateful that we got the chance to see this act of kindness all the way across the world. It really shows that humans are fundamentally good, no matter where you go. And when these children are adults, it's certain that they'll think of Rana with fond memories.
