Dedicated Mother Travels Around The World With Her Disabled Son By Carrying Him On Her Back

No one can match a mother’s love for her child. Simply put, moms are willing to go the extra mile for their children to give them the best kind of life. One mom has proven just that after she literally carried her son on her back while they went on tour to see the world together.

Niki Antram gave birth to a son named Jimmy at the age of 17. But unlike most kids, Jimmy suffered from physical and mental disabilities that prevented him from doing what regular kids do, such as playing outdoors on his own or running around in the park without much supervision.

Despite Jimmy’s condition, that didn’t make his mom love him any less. In fact, Antram gave him unconditional love.

At first, it wasn’t easy for Antram, who admitted to having felt broken when she found out that her son was permanently blind.

“Being a mum so young, I didn't get that carefree life that most 17-year-old's get," she said. "I had responsibility,” Antram told Daily Mail Australia.

Antram made a promise to give Jimmy the best life has to offer. So, she made sure to let her son experience the beauty of the world. They have already gone to different parts of the world, including Hawaii and Bali.

While it might be difficult for some, Antram has done whatever it takes to make it happen, bringing big luggage on their trips while carrying Jimmy on her back. She also makes sure to contact the places where they will be staying to make sure they won’t encounter any problems when it comes to accommodation.

“Planning big holidays, I always make sure I have plenty of nappies, clothes, and even bed pads, sheets and pillowcases,” Antram said.

Then again, Antram also still encounters problems from time to time. “I have worked out how to piggyback Jimmy while pulling my suitcase and carry on through an airport until they give me a wheelchair we use until we board the plane,” she said.

Among Jimmy’s disabilities is blindness, which means Jimmy’s adventures rely on other sensory feelings, such as listening to the sounds of the outdoors or playing with sand and shells.

While Jimmy has a wheelchair, Antram still prefers having Jimmy ride on her back as he enjoys it. Antram doesn’t let her son go on long walks, but she allows him to walk short distances from time to time.

But if you think the mother-and-son duo only visits the regular touristy spots, think again. That’s right, they go for the more adventurous route most of the time — including swimming with crocodiles and skiing.

Antram said she thinks she has no reason to feel sad or lonely knowing her son is content and happy even though he might never get the chance to see what she can.

“He's very happy,” Antram said. “Sometimes I ask myself how can I be sad when I see Jimmy, who has never seen colours, clouds or rainbows and he is just sitting with a smile,” she remarked.

Knowing she’s not getting any younger, Antram hopes to go on more adventures with Jimmy while she still can.

Based on their latest posts on Instagram, it appears Antram and Jimmy — who hail from Sunshine Coast in Queensland, have visited several places In Australia alone. And by the looks of it, it seems Antram and Jimmy won’t stop going on more adventures anytime soon.

We don’t know about you, but Antram definitely deserves the Mother of the Decade Award.
